I go to a Timeshare presentation with a free gift.....whether I buy or not...could be a keychain...or a cruise...not legal?

I am walking through a Disney park when one of the Dream Team walks up to me and gives me a night in the castle...
I had to purchase that days ticket into the park with no guarantee of winning ANYTHING!....but I did...not legal? (well, Ok, you CAN enter the YOaMD contest without buying a park ticket.... technicalities......technicalities)

NO TICKET, NO CHANCE!
Gotta be there to win (Mousefest as an example...)

So I pay for a cruise.....and later my name is drawn to win that cruise for free....Not legal?

Nothing open to the "general public"......invitation only.......or money paid.....
lets say "Some" purchase neccessary...

When I first read this thread I was, of course, a bit bummed because I knew that I would not be able to win the last cruise. It just wasn't in the budget to book it. We get to WDW once a year and only once a year. And we do that by saving for it bit by bit. So yea..I was a bit sad about it. BUT I GOT OVER IT AND MOVED ON!

I come home from work tonight and see all these posts about how and why the cruise giveaway had been cancelled. Again..wow

I am sad and angry that John and the crew had to go through this @&!%!!%@!.

Yall do so much for this community!

Hmmmm....I have so much to say...When I logged off about 5 hours ago this thread was only 5 pages long lol....

FIRST and FOREMOST......Podcast crew. All you do is appreciated. A lot. By everyone, I'm sure. Now while I surely can't ASSUME anyone's intent, I can say that those who voiced concerns did so for their own reasons, but that doesn't necissarily mean that they don't appreciate what is going on. Just trying to look on both sides of the coin. I didn't pay to go on the cruise, couldn't afford it, so yeah I was a little bummed, but I had my WDW trip in Septmeber so I figure I'm good for a year and I was going to be happy to see someone win one. It's always nice to see people happy unexpectedly.

Secondly, I am sorry that something joyful like giving a cruise away had to get ugly, I feel bad and I didn't even do anything. I don't think anyone wanted it to get ugly, probably not even the posters who voiced their concerns, however accusatory they may have been.

THIRDLY AND SO IMPORTANTLY....No one hates you DisneyLily.....in fact, I was really touched by the post you left...probably because I feel the same way. C'mon people, please let's not fight...I like that you are compassionate about things, and I love reading your posts.

I am sad that a cruise won't be given away though, love to see people happy.

I'm so freaking mad..........
Ohwwww, i could run for 10 miles and be as freaking mad as i'm right now (i would be very very very tired do)......

I can totally understand John and that he pulls back the last Give Away Podcast. It's his right to do so and he is right by doing it.

It's not a defense for danv3 but....
It was not only him that was complaining and being an a** about it.
There were a lot of people complaining that they thought it was not right how they were giving away this cruise.
At page 5 danv3 made his comment but before that there were a bunch of selfish people that complained....

This must be fun, this is the DIS and Dreams give something away, just be happy for somebody else, just don't be selfish just once.....

Pete, John, Kevin, Julie, Corey, Wil, Theresa, Walter, Kathy and Tracy (and i hope not but all those others that i maybe forget):

You are doing this for us and look how some people stab you in the back.....
I know this must hurt a bit, but please don't forget that thjose people are just plain NUTS, they bumped their head at least 2 times too many.......
Please know that there are a lot of people that realy love what you're doing and realy appriciate all you give us (and then i don't talk only about the give aways but all the rest to).

To those that are way more jealours then good for them, to those that thinks only about themselves, for those that can't be happy if somebody else wins something:
For a next time -i hope that the podcast team offers a next time-
how big, how small the give away is, how big or small the event the organise is.

Just try to get over it and move on, just try to think how happy you would be with such a price or such oppertunity and be glad somebody get's it somebody with the same love for Disney.
And even when you are not happy with it, and you are upset about it, just keep it to yourself and don't blur it here on teh board.
Just for once appriciate the effort the podcast team puts into all of this!!!!

Then i want to thank all of those people that were glad an happy for one and another that they could'nt win the last cruise, but were happy for those that could win one.
I want to say thanx to all of those here on this topic that stepped up for John and the Podcast team, that reconize the effort and hard work they put into all of this...

Late to the party, but commenting anyway.

I am not a lawyer, I don't even play one on TV but here's what I know. I enter sweepstakes and contests as a hobby. Sweepstakers are even more nuts that Disney fans, and they are all over rules and laws and all that stuff. They can get fanatical, and it can get ugly.

The laws for contests and giveaways in Florida are more strict that in other parts of the country. The lawmakers are trying to protect their citizens from fake contests. A lot of sweepstakes and giveaways will say void in FL and NY, bacause those states have more strict laws that make it a pain for sponsors to run. To avoid all that, they just make it void there.

Our beloved crew is not a big company running a big national sweepstakes. They just want to do something nice, but somebody was bound to jump on it and cry foul. I do NOT think that the OP was trying to stir up trouble at all, but trying to keep our Crew out of trouble. I'm sorry that it turned out so badly for everybody here.

Let's just go eat cake and celebrate Ferris!

Not to be a party pooper, but does this seem kind of "wrong" to anyone else? Normally giveaways like this have a "no purchase necessary" method of entering to avoid the sweepstakes being an illegal lottery. I assume no regular listener will report them, but I would hate to see Dreams get in trouble with law enforcement when they're just trying to give something away!

There seems to be a lot of controversy about how we’re giving away the last free podcast - some are saying we are being unfair, some are saying we are breaking the law.

To be honest what was supposed to be fun has now just turned out to be a royal pain.

I have decided that we won't be giving one more cruise away. We have given away the original allotment we had and this was an 'extra' one I threw in at the last minute. So to avoid any more hurt feelings or concerns that we might be breaking the law the last cruise will not be given away.

All the legal talk aside, questioning an act of kindness, when it doesn't directly benefit you, is selfish and weak. I don't buy the idea that someone was only concerned for the pod cast crews legal standing. You can shine a "lets all just get along" light on it all you want, it's BS. I'm not concerned for anyones feelings that isn't concerned for John's and the rest of the teams feelings. I Know John and Kevin and consider them friends. My loyalty and trust lie with them, not any nay sayers. They should have been given the benefit of the doubt. They've earned it. Sorry you're having to deal with this nonsense John.

I just wanted to say thanks to the podcast crew for everything that they have ever done and will ever do for us. You went above and beyond expectations for the TSM meet and I just can't wait to see what you have in store for us on this cruise!!

Well said Paul , the podcast crew was just trying to do something fun for all of us podcast listeners, I wanted to thank them for doing the podcast (leaving aside the gifts) because just listening to them is a gift (they make me laugh and give me information of the place I love the most).
