Ok, it's a little long but bear with me. I'm just so excited! It's long but it's a GOOD happy dance story!

My DH, DS16 and I had the most wonderful time planning our suprise!. We waited on PIN codes and booked deluxe, perused menus and maps, put together a touring plan and plotted and played trying to decide exactly what iconic moments we simply HAD to share..I recorded Disney World Behind the Scenes and loaded the trip planning DVD into the player and pulled down the mouse ears from our last trip and we waited.
My darling adult niece, and also my best bud (she was in on it) and her DS17 arrived for brunch last Sunday. They haven't had the easiest of times and she works so hard to provide for her son despite the fact she has been widowed since he was quite young. They lived with us for a bit and never once was there a problem. It only brought us closer. They make it, but there isn't much room in their budget for extras. He's a very hardworking and smart kid. He makes great grades and is in multpile honor societies. You can't ask for a sweeter kid. He and my DS and he pretty much have grown up together and are like brothers only without the sibling rivalry and fighting.
We had recently been blessed with a bit of a windfall and knowing her son was going to be a senior in HS next year and that they had never been on a family vacation, we decided it was high time that boy got to see the mouse!
I had pulled out the Mickey Waffler I bought years ago and I was making Mickey Waffles. I poured them some juice in our souvenier mugs from our trip in '08, my son came into the kitchen wearing a pirate goofy hat and handed me my Minnie santa hat and our nephew was looking at us oddly but didn't say anything. As we filled our plates my DH came in wearing his pirate mouse ears. I laughed and told everyone I'd noticed that POC Deadman's Chest was coming on in a bit so we ate and sate down in the den and I started playing the planning DVD.
It was delightful watching my nephew trying to piece it all together and he looked at me and said "Are you guys going to Disney again?" and I told him that we were and that we were going to be going over Thanksgiving next fall. Then I grinned and asked him, and where do you go for Thanksgiving dinner every year?" He replied that he comes to our house and I couldn't hold it back anymore and burst out..... "Well, we're not going to be here so if you're going to spend Thanksgiving with us I guess we'll just have to take you with us! We're all going to Disney World!!!!"
He was just beside himself. Our son was grinning ear to ear. My niece and I were bawling and my husband pushed the DVD menu over to the resorts area where the Wilderness Lodge is featured. We told him that is where we were going to be staying and watched the segments on all the parks and he and his mom kept saying, Oh my gosh, it's so much better than Six Flags and i told him that you can't even compare the two! He was watching and would just laugh to himself and shake his head. I was LOVING it.
We talked a little bit about what he'd always wanted to do while he'd dreamed about going and I tweaked the touring plan a bit to accomodate. I have a pretty good plan in place and can start making my ADRS in a few weeks! My son and he have more or less grown up together and they're going to just have the best time doing this together.

If you're there in November 2010 and see a party of five
with two teenaged boys who can't stop smiling (or eating - I made 20 or so Mickey waffles and there were NONE left!) then wave to us and smile. We are so looking forward to sharing a magical journey with you!
