Hope I'm in the right forum for this! As the title says. Me? A roller coaster for sure. Year started out normally, then early March the shop I worked for went bankrupt, no warning. Working away one morning then a phone call from head office saying basically close up, we're out of business Two hours later someone arrived to "strip the shop of anything valuable" ( their words). So that was it, 19 years there too, loved it. Unemployed for 7 months, during which time I got diagnosed with depression as honestly thought I couldn't carry on, nothing was worth it anymore. Prescribed an anti-depressant which I still take and has helped alot.
Fast forward to 31st July and DH finally gets call from hospital that a lung donor has been found - 5 years waiting too. A 10 hour operation later he has a new set of lungs! Unfortunately does catch infections and spends 7 weeks in ICU, at times in induced coma not knowing if will live of not. However pulls through and out of hospital on 11th October!
In August/ September time my Dad's cancer returns- been having chemo since late 2022. But again, successful operation and was told just before Xmas that all clear and just needs to go and have check ups regularly.
Late September after many many job applications, I finally get a job interview! Trial shift a couple of days later and get the job!! YAY!!!!!!! Part-time whereas last job was full-time, but was looking to reduce hours anyway due to stress of working full-time and everything else that was going on. Love the job and work with great people who understand I have Aspergers/ Level 1 autism as they now say, which is darned amazing!
Here's hoping that 2024 stays positive!

Hope things continue to work out well for you.

Mine was pretty bad, hope this year is better.
All 5 of the adults in my family (me, DH DS, DD and DIL) had medical issues.
A couple of us several :(

Some health challenges in 2023. Diagnosed with afib, had an ablation which included by first hospital stay, and 5 months later declared successful. And got a handle on a kidney condition that was diagnosed in 2022. Latest blood work shows I have recovered. Let's just say Doctors can get too aggressive in trying to lower blood pressure so I will be asking a LOT more questions when they want to add blood pressure medicine.

The year started out fine, but fell apart beginning in August and was a nightmare from then on, all caused by a single human being. Things have settled down and hopefully 2024 will be better.

It had its ups and downs. We did have a wonderful trip to WDW with our son, daughter-in-law, and 3 granddaughters. Actually the past 4 years have been a nightmare with DH’s parents. My FIL passed away in 2020 and MIL passed away last week. We all feel like we’re finally getting our lives back.

2023 was not a great year.

3 deaths of close family members (Jan, May, Aug), two very unexpected and shocking. And those deaths created chaos with family members. Idk why, but death brings out the worst in some.

Major health concerns for 3 out of 4 parents. Still ongoing, but two are improving.

Not to mention the shocking passing of one of our dd’s elementary teachers who was only 35 years old (dd is still active in her old school for community service), and diagnosis of terminal brain cancer for a current teacher at her school (in early 50’s).

Health is everything!

On top of that, Dd had a very rough go the first quarter of 2023 with friends. Very rough. She came out strong in the end, but it was not easy or fun to witness.

And if you have read any of my posts these last few days you’ll know our holidays were ruined with illness.

I’m 100% ready for a fresh start!

Welcome :welcome: 2024!

We started out having a great year. Mid year - DH - also AFIB. I needed surgery after our great Italy trip. One week after my surgery, not good news again with DH. He just had surgery. Waiting patiently if anything further is needed. Hoping for all of us facing challenges, to have a happy and healthy year - most importantly health wise. For those with a great 2023 - hoping 2024 is the same or better.

My DIL sent me this quote - not sure where it was from

Everything is important.
Until You're sick, then you realize there was only one thing that was important. Your health.
But nonetheless, we borrow from the bank of our health, taking loans on stress and sleepless nights to pay for something that doesn't really matter.

What’s always funny actually it’s ironic and it gives you perspective is that you think your life is so horrible and then you read about what other people are going through and you think my God my life is not that bad we could always be so much worse I’m so sorry For all the trials and tribulations everyone’s been going through and I sure hope things improve 2023 was definitely a roller coaster for me on some things that ended very well and others it ended horribly some of the horrible is leaking into 2024 and there’s nothing I can do about it I’m gonna have to learn to accept it and live with it whether I like it or not those lessons are hard to take
I wish everyone peace health and happiness
You have nothing without your health no matter what anybody says because without your health you have nothing no one wants a life of pain and dealing with health issues for one you just can’t afford it not in this country so I wish everyone the gift of health and of course happiness!
May you have a joyful 2024!!

Not a good year. But they all can’t be good can they?
Broke my femur and they found a cancerous lesion. 3 weeks in rehab, 3 weeks in the hospital and 2 surgeries.
Looking at some radiation in the new year, lots of dr. visits and we’ll see what happens.
I’m alive and with my family so it’s good in that respect.
Also while I was in the hospital my favorite aunt died.

First, @A Squared, welcome to the dis. And I do like your screen name, A Squared, pretty neat.

Sounds like you landed a good job there. Congratulations, best wishes wit it. Hoping all goes well in your life.

For me? My brother passed away about 2 months ago. Marie's (my wife) uncle, for whom she and I have been caregivers for about 5 years now, passed away this time last year. For myself, it seems like my weekly calendar is a litany of doctor visits, rehab visits, therapy visits. But, I guess at my age, it goes a bit with the territory.

All in all, not too bad of a 2023, looking for an improved 2024. Again, welcome A Squared.

I refer to 2023 as the year we got old. I fell in December 2022, spent 4 months on crutches, and ended up having a total knee replacement in late June. Rehab has been stead but very slow, much slower than I'd anticipated. In February and then in March, DH fell and tore his biceps tendon and rotator cuff. He had surgery in October (had to wait until I was mobile/able) and is doing well. We are both improving, of course, but it was a long year. I'm hoping 2024 is more positive.

What’s always funny actually it’s ironic and it gives you perspective is that you think your life is so horrible and then you read about what other people are going through and you think my God my life is not that bad we could always be so much worse
Wise words

Thank You - it’s just heart breaking some of the trials & tribulations some people endure and these things always seem to go one right after another ! I often wonder why bad things happen to good people so much ??

Hope I'm in the right forum for this! As the title says
You are definitely in the right forum. I am really sorry for your struggles in 2023 and hope you have a brighter 2024.

If you haven't done so already, please spend some time reading the other threads and posts related to this subject. You will find an extremely empathetic and supportive group of people.

2023 wasn't the worst, but it's up there. The last 7 years have stunk worse than road kill. This year, my son had severe depression and wound up hospitalized for 3 weeks. Admitted weighing less than 90 pounds. I'd been trying to get them to do something, but was ignored as usual. The owners of the house we were renting decided to move in so we had to relocate. My bil has a house that had not been lived in for nearly 20 years, so we offered to rent it. It would have been perfecct and had an elevator so I could actually be with my husband and son. One week before we were to move, he decided he didn't want us there. Until then I had always really respected him, but he wouldn't even talk to me about why or what I/we could do . Had to beg for a one month extension of our lease. We realized that we had no family reason anymore for staying where we were, so decided to move to Orlando.
Had to arrange packing and mover, find a house to rent sight unseen, make autotrain reservations. etc, Then, just about 10 days prior to moving, my husband went into the hospital. Couldn't stay there for him. had to come to Fla and settle everything. Long story short, he was in the hospital, rehab and then the hospital again for 3 months. No member of his family went to visit. He finally got here 2 weeks ago, and will probably be rehospitalized in the near future. He has severe heart disease which has led to the implantation of a Left Ventricular Assist Device. I have been relatively healthy for a 70 year old with Crohns and COPD. Thank G-d, because I've had to unpack all but about 10 of the 250 boxes we wound up with because neither of them bothered to week their stuff out.
I SURE HOPE 2024 IS AN IMPROVEMENT.

2023 wasn’t good. I’m hopeful that 2024 will be better.

We haven’t had a good year in a very long time. I’m trying to manifest better things. Hoping it works.
