How uncomfortable are we going to be?

Hi all, I'm new here, but have been lurking around for a few months.

My husband, son (14 months), sister and I are going to Disney the week after Thanksgiving. We are staying at POR.

We co-sleep with my son at home, and plan on doing it on the trip. There's no way he'll sleep in the crib or pack and play. At home, we have a queen, and at times it is tight. How tight are we going to be in a double bed?

I'm starting to worry!

We have a package booked with a pin code, and I've already paid the final for it, so am I able to change hotels? I don't know if we could swing most of the deluxes, but AKL or WL we might be able to. I know they have Queens. We have stayed at AKL before.

Thanks for your input!

Doesn't POR have King Bedrooms? I think you're already use to sleeping with a toddler, so I don't think a double would make much difference than a queen. If you don't want to take a chance, then I would check on a king bed, that you wouldn't have any problems with, I believe. I have a king at home so I'm use to a lot of space, I could never do it in a double.

It depends on how you like to sleep. My DH and I did the same thing with our son until he was about 2 and we only have a double bed. I like to sleep on my side and my DS doesn't move that much so it wasn't that bad. Some rooms at POR have a trundle bed so maybe you could ask for one of those rooms and see if he'll sleep there. Maybe one of you could lay with him until he falls asleep. If not you or your husband could try it.

Well, a queen mattress is 60 inches wide, and a double is 53 inches wide. So, figure, 7 inches less space than you have on your mattress at home.

Are you all planning on staying in the same room? I'm trying to figure out how you plan on working the sleeping situation. I can't see where 3 of you would fit on the double bed, and the trundles are not big enough for an adult, so I can't see anyone sleeping on that. There is definately not room for one of you to lay next to your son on it until he falls asleep. You could bring an air matress along, and have someone sleep on that, but if you have a long trip planned I don't think that that would be very comfortable.

I guess I'm saying that I think you should try to upgrade to a deluxe. If you think it is tight sleeping at home in a queen, there is no way you would all be comfortable in a double bed. The amount of money you are saving by staying at a moderate in no way accounts for how miserable you all will be if you cannot sleep!

Maybe your son can sleep with your husband and you can sleep with your sister. At least it will only be 2 in a bed rather than 3. As a side note, it's never too soon to break the co-sleeping habit.

We half cosleep w/ our almost 2yo ds (and did so for a while w/ our now 6yo dd) and are also staying at POR. Right now we have his crib next to our bed (queen) w/ the side down. Sometimes he is in bed w/ us, and others he sleeps all night in the crib.

The plan is to request an AB room w/ a trundle bed and have ds sleep on it w/ dh and I on the double. I think ds will be fine on the trundle.

Maybe this could be an option?

I know when dh and I traveled when dd was small, we would make sure we had either a King or a room w/ two doubles. If we had two doubles one of us slept w/ dd and the other got a bed to themselves... at least until dd fell asleep! ;)

Depending on how full the resort is when you check in, you may not be able to get a room with a trundle bed, as you only have 4 in your party. If the resort is full or almost full, they hold those rooms for parties of 5. We were just at POR, and my only request was a room in Alligator Bayou, and they would not accomodate me, as we only had 3 people in our room. The person at check in stated to me that the resort was full, and the AB rooms were all booked for larger families.

If you do not end up in a room with a trundle, will you be comfortable sleeping with your sis for the whole vacation? And will your hubby be fine with sleeping with your son for the whole vacation? Plan for the worst case senerio to happen, and then hope for the best. That way you are set to deal with whatever happens.

If they got a room with a king sized bed, there wouldn't be any room for the Sister to sleep. They have three adults and one infant. A king room only holds two adults and one under the age of three.

The trundle beds are made for children 9 years and under. Your sister (unless she's under 9 years old) will not fit on the trundle. :)

We are planning to stay in the same room. I was thinking about the trundle bed for my son, but since there are only four of us, we probably have a good chance of being placed in the mansions. Thanks for your input. You make me feel better about spending the extra cash! Life takes Disney Visa and so does Disney!

We were thinking alike - the same thing about the trundle bed!

I don't really want to sleep with my sister the whole vacation! We did that growing up, been there, done that! LOL ;)

We haven't been on vacation in four years, and we really need this to be relaxing (well as relaxing as it can be with a 14 month old!)

She's 27. While we're paying for her trip so she can help us with our son (and have fun too!!), I think she'd draw the line at sleeping on a bed made for someone 9 and under!

My husband and I co slept with each of our kids when they were young until they were toddlers. We had a double bed the whole time.

I'd definitely look at upgrading. We have a queen and while DD8 never co-slept with us there were plenty of nights she'd find her way to our bed and we were too tired to take her back to her room. She's an active sleeper and is all over the bed. I couldn't imagine sleeping in anything less than a queen with a child.

For about $30 extra a night you could a Family Suite at All Star Music.
The Family Suite has a QUEEN size in the master bedroom area.

DH and I stayed in a Family Suite at All Star Music ( a value resort) in Sept. of 2006.

We really enjoyed the Queen size bed, the kitchenette with the microwave, having a sofa and cushioned chair to sit on and relax after a day at the parks before retiring for the evening.

I thought the pullouts very comfortable.

They are designed so the back cushion and seat cushion of the pullout support the pullout. There is no metal bar to hurt the sleepers back.

Have fun at Disney wherever you choose to stay!:wizard:

We co sleep with our children too, and have a queen bed. We switched to a double one time for vacation, and it was TIGHT! And my husband and I aren't big people. We're both inly about 5 feet and skinny, and there was only 1 kid in the bed with us at that time. We had many uncomfortable nights of sleep in the double. You might want to spring for one of the cheaper deluxes - they have 2 queens. That's what we're doing. I just can't imagine spending my nights uncomfortable and then get up in the morning and do the parks. Much rather spend a few extra dollars so that we get a good nights sleep.

I switched today to AKL standard view. I was able to get this on my pin code I had received via email, so it's a pretty good deal. Hopefully the construction going on will not be an issue!

Thanks to all of you on your input and suggestions.

We stayed at POR last March. My son was 19 months at the time and I was super stressed about where he would sleep since he was too big for a pnp and too small to sleep on his own. I thought about putting him on the trundle, but I was afraid he would get up in the night.

The beds are ABSOLUTELY too small for 2 adults and a toddler. HOWEVER...what we did was push one bed all the way up against the wall. We asked for extra pillows and 2 bed rails. We stuffed the pillows into the crack between the bed and wall and placed the bed rails on the opposite side of the bed and the foot. We alternated nights sleeping with our son. One of us slept in the other bed and one of us slept with our son. You could have DH sleep with your little one and you could bunk with your sis.
