How does everyone carry their cameras?

I don't like to put my camera away (too many photo opportunities at WDW). I am currently using a neckstrap, but am thinking of switching to a wrist strap.

I worry about a wrist strap though as I don't want anything to happen to my lenses (even though I don't hold it by my side).

It seems that it would be easier to put it away (when on rides) if I use a wrist strap.

Thoughts?

I wear cargo shorts with lots of large pockets. The camera will go in one of the pockets. Easy access, but protected from accidental bumps or drops.

I use a neckstrap and keep the lens cap off so I don't miss anything. The only times I take the camera off when I am at WDW is when I eat or if we are getting on to wet ride or one that does not allow photos. popcorn::

I like the suggestion of the cargo shorts, but my 70-200mm f/2.8 L might look a little strange in there :rotfl2:

Doesn't the neck strap make you hot? I like the neck strap, because when I am switching lenses, I can have it hang. It does tend to make me hot though.

I like the wrist strap when using my pocket camera, but since my new camera is so large I don't know how comfortable a wrist strap will be.

I only have a 70-200 f4. :( :(

I usually wrap the neck strap around my wrist twice, and wrap my fingers around the lens. This is how my camera stays for most of the day, it is fairly comfortable and keeps the camera ready for any opportunities. Definitely keep the lens hood on for protection!

Yes it can, and there are other straps out there that can be purchased that help to minimize this. I have just been too caught up in the 'what lens can I not live without' dilemma to really look in to them yet. I wouldn't trust a wrist strap on on my DSLR, but that is just preference.

...nothing wrong with the f/4 at all :thumbsup2 , best choice I ever made over the 70-300 IS. It is much lighter and smaller than the f/2.8. If I know I don't need the speed of the glass I prefer to carry that lens just because of the weight factor .... .. You know, all that weight hanging around the neck :teeth:

Doesn't look nearly as impressive as the f/2.8 does in the cargo shorts! ;)

I use a hand strap exclusively. Well besides a bag/pack. Super expensive tamrac expedition backpack for carrying while traveling and a smaller lowepro for a body and two lens combo while at the parks. But when the cam is out of the bag it is always in my hand with this item:

I also do not like anything hanging on my neck, especialy for 8-10 hours at a park or other event.
