How to use an upgrade coupon with EA?

I am a National EA member. I used an upgrade coupon on a Emerald Club reservation. It did give me an full size car for the intermediate price, but do I get the car at the full size aisle? I am not sure what to do

I THINK that you should look for a fullsize car on the EA. If there are none available, I would get one from the FS aisle and deal with it at the checkout booth. They shouldn't give you a hard time...you have a FS reserved, after all. It's like using Emerald Reserve, I would think.

You will get it from the Full size aisle. Take a peek at your confirmation. There will be a statement about your level of service. It will probably say : Emerald Reserve. Here is a hint. If you book a compact you will save money and they will upgrade you to a standard car. National does not have a standard car row, they only have fulll size cars.
I would go to the level printed on the confirmation. Taking one from the EA would possibly deprive another EC member of a full size car.

Thanks, it doesn't say ER anywhere on the ressie. The system usually kicks you into Emerald Reserve when you request bigger than an intermediate so it surprised me a bit. I will ask an attendant there if I have to.

That is odd, I know on my recent ressie I had a very hard time finding the level of service. I found it under my name, EC number and other info.
Good luck.

When I use an upgrade coupon with National, it changes the reservation to be "counter" instead of "Emerald Reserve". I do not want to have to wait in line at a counter, or take a chance on them not having the upgraded size car, so I decided not to use the upgrade coupon. (The coupon states subject to availibility on the upgrade, so I take that to mean you're only guaranteed the smaller size car, which definitely would not work for us.)

You can call and ask them to change it from counter to Emerald Reserve. OR, you can just go to the ER aisle pick your car and go to the exit booth.
It is a glitch in the computer. Don't worry about the disclaimer about availability, UNLESS you are going to go during a very busy time. Like, Christmas.

I just read it more carefully and my ressie says "counter" . I am going to pay the couple of dollars extra to bypass that counter. I thought it was kind of weird. I guess you can use other coupons just not upgrades.

Just call and have them change it from counter to reserve. Or, just go to the garage and get the car and proceed to the exit booth.

The reason the upgrade coupons change to "counter" is because they're subject to availibility, and the agency has the right to say that a larger car is not available, and assign you the smaller car you actually booked. I'm with you and paid the few dollars extra to bypass the counter and not use the upgrade coupon.

disneyldwjr - I know you said you could call and have them change it to counter, but I'm leary of having anyone manually adjust the reservation - just seems too prone to getting things messed up. But thanks for the info! :goodvibes

I originally used the upgrade coupon also and called and asked why I was llisted as "counter" and they said they would change.

To make a long story short, a "manager" came on the line and said that you could not get the car unless I went to the counter. She said that you could not use Emerald Reserve with that coupon unless you stopped at the counter.

I can see everyone's rationale here, I was just relating what has happened with me in the past. I have done both things I have suggested and have had no problem at all. But, in the long run, you have to do what is correct for you.

I had a similar conversation with National a couple weeks ago. Told in no uncertain terms we'd need to use the counter for the upgrade coupon. I have two ressies right now, trying to decide which to keep.

We are coming in at 10 PM so I really want no hassles with the counter. But I hate paying the $10 extra to get the full size. The cheapo in me says "Go to the counter , how bad can it be at 10 PM " . I wish I hadn't seen that coupon in the first place. I should just stop thinking about it. It is $38 for a full . Is that bad?

That's weird... last Christmas I used a free 2 class upgrade code when I booked online, and my confirmation looked just as if I'd booked a full-size. We used the full-size aisle and didn't have any trouble. It was a coupon code from mousesavers.com.
