My son takes liquid fish oil. It comes in a rather large glass bottle (12 oz). I know I can't bring it on our carryon but I definetely don't want to put it in our luggage and risk it breaking. I can't take pills for him because he won't be able to swallow them. Is there anyway of getting this on the plane? Could I somehow check it in with someone? Thanks

WOuld it be possible to purchase it when you arrive? If you are not renting a car & going ME, check out the Garden Grocer or any place that delivers to WDW to see if they have fish oil on their list. If not, call them & ask if they could add that to your order. They don't list wine or beer but I've always been able to add it to my order by calling, so why not fish oil if you explain your situation? Then it could be delivered to your resort, along with a few other goodies :thumbsup2 That'd be the easiest route.

If that doesn't work for you, you could try to ask his doctor for a prescription. If you can get it bottled as an RX, as long as it is unopened perhaps you'd be able to carry it on? Of course I'll recommend you first read the TSA rules about medications &/or call your airlines to find out if that's going to work.

Good luck - where there's a will, there's a way. I'm betting you'll find it :goodvibes

It's medical. Put it in its own zipper bag (for various reasons), inform the TSO that it's a medically required substance, and ask for a manager if you run into difficulty.

See TSA.gov for more information.

If you do put this in checked baggage, you can easily pack it so it won't break. Just wrap in plenty of bubble wrap and enclose the whole thing in an extra large ziploc bag, then place in the center of your suitcase surrounded by clothes. I have checked luggage with wine wrapped in this way with no breakage many times. This would be a lot easier than dealing with the TSA as a carry-on.

We use Barleans Fish Oil and last time we traveled I was able to get individual serving packets from our local natural food store.

This is along the lines of what I do.

If you have access to a diaper or two you can wrap the bottle in the diapers (in case there is a leak) and then double or triple ziploc it and place in the center of your checked bag. I've done this before without any issues. An old towel would also do the trick.

Another thought....could you transfer the oil into a plastic bottle before wrapping it up?

I have bought 3oz bottles at Bed Bath and Beyond and transferred liquids into them. They can be put into your quart baggie for screening. TSA wants to see the bottle say 3oz or 100ml.

We have frequently taken bottles of wine with us when we have traveled on a plane and each and every time it has arrived safely in our checked in luggage. I wrap the bottles in bubble wrap, place it in a two gallon zip lock bag (I sometimes double bag if I am nervous), and stick it between all of our clothes in the largest suitcase we bringing. I believe if you do this with the fish oil, you should not have trouble.

But if you are still anxious, the Garden Grocer does deliver. There is a twelve dollar delivery charge and a minimum order of forty dollars.

Thank you all for such great advice. I just remembered I asked this question and just found all your great responses. Much appreciated.

My kids take liquid as well as chewable soft gels. They are these little balls that you can chew. Both love them. They are by Nordic Naturals.
