So we're staying concierge for the first time ever. And I don't know what the tipping protocol is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And is the staff different on the weekends? How do you address who tips go to? Do you tip them all?
HELP!!!!

I have read repeatedly here that the concierge staff is not permitted to accept tips from guests. Others have posted that they left small gifts for the concierge staff (like a food item). We did not tip the concierge staff during our last trip. DS did give one of the lounge workers his 2nd Tinkerbell pin from the double set, to thank her for doing a great job for us that week.

1) PLEASE, DO NOT TIP CONCIERGE STAFF.
2) Accepting a cash tip can get them fired.
3) They must turn over all cash tips to their manager.
4) They will refuse cash three times, then accept, then turn over to a manager.
5) However, they can accept gifts up to $75 value.

NOTE: Concierge must inform managers of all gifts. If the gift is considered too extravagant or inappropriate, the Concierge must turn it over to management.

NOTE2: Disney staggers the days-off. CM's actually have a union bid on their work days. Most do not have the weekend off. (Example: They might have Tue-Wed off or Thu-Fri off.) So, many of the weekday Concierge are there on the weekend.

Do what's in your heart and do it discreetly. ;)

Slip an Amex or Visa gift card in an envelope with their name on it. That's how to do it.

Have a wonderful time,

Lives4Disney :)

I agree with TheRustyScupper that guests should follow his advice and get them a gift up to $75 in value, because it's the right thing to do.

I never tips cash I give gift cards and send gift baskets from Harry and david and other places. They arent sup to taking tips but many of the long time CMS that I know DONT take tips but as the younger kids take them and show them off later.

I've stayed at concierge level twice in two different hotels...
We always tip housekeeping well for doing a nice job, but have never tipped concierge members because we have never used their services.
May I ask you what kinds of things they can do for you that would involve presenting them with a gift? I'm curious for future stays, so that we can benefit from the services they offer.

Are there other ideas for small gifts to the concierge? I always come up empty, there are times they really go out of their way to help.:confused3

We have never tipped the Lounge Staff because we did not use their services. We have brought gifts from home for the IPO Staff, who were extremely helpful. I got the idea from another poster--something from your state of area of the country, usually edible.

I've actually only given gifts to the IPO staff. They're the ones who usually help me the most with all my pre-planning. Most of the time, I don't even see the onsite staff except to check-in. One time, I sent down a gift basket of all chocolates for the IPO department to share and during a particularly special trip, I found out all the names of the staff and had a "Wishes" ornament from the Make a Wish Foundation engraved with their names.

The best "tip" you can give is a letter or email to their boss thanking xyz for the wonderful service they provided.:thumbsup2

I've done that several times....until I found out that despite Disney calling me and thanking me for writing and ASSURING me that the CMs I mentioned will recieve yada yada yada......nothing happens. They aren't even made aware that I've written and praised them. :sad2: So...now knowing what I know...I TIP (discreetly) because that is what I feel is appropriate to show my gratitude for all the concierge CMs do to make our stays magical.

Concierge CMs DO accept tips & they are very appreciated. Discretion is the name of the game.:cool2:

1. If you feel in your heart that the CM deserves a tip, try offering them a visa gift card.
2. Bring small gift baskets from home or local type goodies to give to the Cm.
3. stop numbering things your driving me nuts reading your post :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
