How to tell whether points in a reservation are bankable

So, I've got an upcoming trip booked and I need a few points back that are in the reservation.

The quick option was to call MS, but - busy signal and I'm not anxious enough to sit on the phone.

I have 60 points tied up in a reservation. 40 from one resort and 20 from another. I can modify and release the 20, but even though they say 2020 use year, expire Sept 30, I am not sure if they are bankable or have been banked from my 2019 use year into my 2020 use year. I have an October use year and would like to migrate these to 2021, if they are not actually 2019.

The whole reservation has more nights and more points but is still broken down into individual segments as I haven't called MS to combine all the nights yet.

The problem comes up because of not being able to borrow more than 50%. I guess I could release them and rebook with more borrowed points, to find out, but obviously don't want to create more borrowed points. I'm working with 4 contracts so lots of points, just not enough of the flavor I currently desire.

They are in my March 2021 reservation.

Go into the reservation and modify without changing anything and when you book it again, you will see a point summary link. That can tell you what was used which can help you decide what will be freed up.

Banked points will always stay in the reservation before current UY will.

If you go to your point contracts one the web you can see the breakdown of how they are used by year and maybe you can see if they are from 2019. I hear you on member services. I waited 80 minutes this morning to book my New Years 2022 stay because I had transferred points with a different home base and it wouldn’t let me book with them online for some reason.

Yes, I've done that. The problem is it doesn't tell you whether the points currently showing as 2020 oct use year were banked from 2019. I've gone into my contract activity since I posted and it appears the particular points I'm after were already banked into 2020 from 2019, meaning I can't bank them into 2021.

But, while in my contract activity, I saw something else that I hadn't noted before. It was called 'update because of folio expiration'. Not sure what that meant, but it was there twice, with 3 points 'deleted' for lack of a better understanding, plus another transaction with 9 points deleted. I don't remember losing any points.

Just thankful I'm not fooling with New Years! Been there done that in Y2K, so not going back! (I meant to Disney during a super busy time.)

Hope you got what you wanted! After looking at contract activity I'm pretty sure they are 2019 from returned points when I was at Hilton Head when they closed in March 2020. Now, just curious about the 'folio expiration' terminology because I didn't forfeit any points that I know of. I'll try MS weekdays next week.

I just thought of something else that might help. Go to Manage My Vacation Points. It will show you how many points you have not in reservations currently sitting in your 2020 UY and how many you have left to bank. If all the points in the trip you booked are banked or borrowed, and you have not yet banked anything into 2021, those numbers should match.

For example, for my Dec UY, it shows 46 points and then says 46 points can be banked, That tells me all my banked 2019 points are in reservations.

Go ahead and make the change and see what falls out?

I almost did it but then would have to worry about whether they put my points back. Easier to just wait and see what they say when I call in a couple of days. I'm almost certain at this point that they are 2019 banked into 2020.

Worst case is I wait until 7 months to finish the booking with other points.

Thanks for responding.

No points left in 2020. I was doing a great job of managing my points until I got a wild idea to book an 'extra' trip! Actually I borrowed 25 of my BWV points into 2020 from 2021. In normal times, I'm rarely banking, just borrowing, and I like that as 2042 approaches. (No intent to ever sell.)

So, if you have no 2020 points showing, you only borrowed 25, and did not bank any 2020 into 2021, then it sounds like your reservations have to be a mix of 2020 and banked 2019 points,

The system will always use up the banked 2019 and free up 2020 UY in the same trip. Now, you mention having more than one reservation. If you drop the night, and it’s banked points only. Then go into what you still have reserved, modify it but don’t change a thing. Follow through until the end and book and it will pick up those banked points and then free up 2020 points.

The only way this would not work is if you have no 2020 UY points and that Only happens if you used them already by borrowing back to your 2019 UY for previous trips.
