How to take off a day for a LOS pass??

I have read previous posts that with the LOS or Ultimate Park Hopper pass, if checking out early I can take off a day.

For example.....

December 21...check into BCV early/ head to parks
December 25....check out around 9am and travel to visit family.....no time for parks that day


Can we get an Ultimate Park Hopper pass for only 3 nights/4 days when we are really staying 4 nights???? Also, do we purchase these at time of check in or add them to our ressies??? Do I just explain this when purchasing them??

We have gone back and forth with a 4 day Park Hopper or the above and for about $15 more, we can have access to PI and Water Parks (if warm!!), and DQ.

The length of stay (Ultimate Park Hopper) tickets are purchased only at the resorts. When you check in and get tickets just tell them you would like to leave last day off the the length of stay pass and they will allow it.
