We (extended family) are coming to the World at Christmas (my 2nd visit, 1st visit was Christmas 2005). We would like to know what people thought about how to spend Christmas Day, and where to have dinner? I know this is planning ahead, but it is the only meal we want to get sorted.
The one thing I really want to do differently this time is, as recommended by the team, is to relax, take our time and enjoy Disney and Florida.
We would like to treat the family to a special meal, in memory of my husband's mother, who passed away earlier this year.

This is the 1st time I have posted on the boards, so forgive me if I haven't followed proper protocols. I have tried searching but didn't find quite the same question.

I have listened to most, if not all, the podcasts but this is the 1st time I have posted on the forums.

Ohana for dinner. Ohana means family and they treat you like family. If you are looking for character meal then Chef Mickey or Crystal palace.

Thank you for your suggestion - I will check Ohanas out nearer the time, but I am not sure how far in advance I will be able to book.
I have been catching up on my DIS podcasts over the past couple of weeks and beginning to get excited already....

Do you want the traditional Christmas dinner? If it is important, I would suggest the Whispering Canyon Cafe. They have turkey, dressing and all the fixins as well as another meat, usually ham. It is a great way to spend Christmas night

Agree as well with traditional meal. We also like liberty tree for traditional meal. Another thought is candle light processional dinner package. We try to go to processional when we are there very powerful and beautiful!

After thinking about this, I remembered how we spent Christmas day last year.

At 9 a.m., we opened Epcot and rode Soarin and Test Track. We were at Animal Kingdom by 11:15 and went and rode Expedition Everest. Back to the hotel by 1, had a burger and laid by the pool and used sea racers on Bay lake till 4:30 when we left to get ready for our 5:15 dinner reservation at Whispering Canyon.

We ate dinner and were at Hollywood studios by 7:15 where we went and spent an hour viewing the Osborne lights. We then went to the Magic Kingdom for the fireworks before taking the boat back to the Wilderness Lodge for a good nights sleep.

Boy...were we tired!!!

You were able to do all four parks on Christmas?

I can imagine you being tired.

Was Whispering Canyon Cafe nice on Christmas Day, or was it obnoxious and loud?

I think your Christmas Day itinerary for last year sounds amazing and inspirational but not sure if my feet will be able to follow in your steps. However, I love traditional turkey dinner and also adore fireworks, so may try your evening plan.
Thank you so much for your input - i would have replied sooner but have only just figured out how to get back to the thread I started. Also having realised I should have put it on a different board.

Your Christmas Day itinerary sounds amazing - but I am not sure if my feet would stand up to following in your steps! The evening bit sounds worth a try however. We all love a traditional turkey dinner (apart from my veggie daughter) and I adore fireworks, particularly when done in the Disney way.
We really appreciate your suggestion
Apologies for not replying sooner, but I have only just figured out how to track down the thread I started.

This sounds fantastic - lots of tissues needed for the processional do you think?

Can start crying at any opportunity - could be another Teresa...

Last December was nice and quiet as well as most of the other Christmas dinners that we had there. The one year 2005 was a bit different. i remember the waiter coming to the table with a plastic ketchup bottle and asked my daughter if she wanted some. He squeezed the container and a red string came flying out. My daughter thought that it was ketchup....so funny. When he took my cc to pay for the bill, he came back out of the kitchen and yelled "Mr Gropp, I called your CC company and they said that your card is......OK. Other than that time , all others have been very tame on Christmas day. It is a great meal.
