How to select a room at POR? . . . too many choices!

We stayed at POR in 2009, but plan to return next summer. I am overwhelmed with the room choices.

Last time, I requested and received a room close to the food court. We were placed in building 14 on the first floor. Now, these rooms are preferred. I am not sure about a garden vs water view either.

We prefer the Mansion section. I book GV room and request a location close to the bridge over to Old Man island. Love POR! So pretty.

Check out the beginning of the POR thread. There should be a breakdown of the various views. If not, check out portorleans.org for mor info.

In the case of POR, I would definitely pay for the preferred room. In the summer of 2011, we stayed one night at POR in the back of the resort. Building 25. Never again. It took us forever to get our luggage to the room.

We've stayed in building 14, 15, and 28 as well. Definitely the best two buildings were 14 and 15.

I totally agree stay in a preferred building. It's closer to everything. That's just my opinion it's the only category I would pay for at a moderate. I wouldn't pay for a view without a Balcony that's just me

We just returned. I booked a Royal Riverfront room as a special B-day surprise for DD. We were on the 2nd floor of Oak Manor in the west wing and looked straight across to the Mill/Boat shuttle to DTD. It was pretty. It was closer to the bridge that went to the lobby that the one to Old Man Island. Being Riverfront, you are further from the parking lot, which is only an issue if you drive or want to catch those bus stops in the back of the resort buildling. I loved the room. Actually, I think I'd choose Parterre or Magnolia the next time for proxmity to the bridge. Waterview is usually the quiet pools. I'd choose either Garden or Riverfront, but that's just me. Our Mousekeeping, btw -- STELLAR! Awesome, quick and left several towel creations! The resort was so very clean and groomed.

:thumbsup2 I will second this. We stayed at POR for the first time this past April and were put in AB probably the furthest building away. Oh my what a hike. I am a runner, so not a lazy person who cant walk....but found that the walk at the end of the night to refill a mug or grab a snack was NOT worth that walk. We said that we loved the resort, but I was VERY happy when they added the preferred option- now I can pay to ensure we get a close room- and not have to just request it and hope for the best. We probably would never have booked at POR again if not. We are booked at POR this April in a PREFERRED room.

My favorite location was Oak Manor until they became RR's. Now I love, love, love Acadian House.
