OK I will be sailing on the Eastern Magic soon and would really like to surprise my bride by sighting the Wonder during the trip.. Can any of you out there that did this please post the time, day of the week this happen and place there were when this happen.. And which side of the ship you were on.. Ohh and which ship you were on would be good to..:D

Thanks so

Mike

We had a special encounter on October 11 2003: The Wonder was in the dock for a overhaul for a week before that date. Both ships were in Port when we boarded the Magic. About an hour before our departure they took the Wonder out for a test-run. When we left Port the Wonder was waiting for us a couple of miles off-shore. Upon passing both ships blew their horns and there was a lot of waving going on between the passengers of teh MAgic and the crew of the Wonder.

We were just on the July 8th Wonder and on the last night (Saturday) at about 11 pm we were looking out from our verandah on the starboard side and saw a ship ahead of us in the distance. DW and I both thought that it was the Carnival Fantasy returning to port and that we would pass her during the night but the ship got too big too fast so we figured that it was coming towards us instead of away from us.
We watched as the ship sailed closer to us and, through the zoom on our cameras, saw the distinctive twin red stacks of DCL. The ships past just close enough to tell that it was the Magic but not to see any detail without looking through a zoom lens. It was about 11:20 when the 2 ships were directly abreast of each other.

Mike,
From the Magic, you should also be looking off the starboard side of the ship to see the Wonder. The time is about 11pm on the first night of a 7 day Eastern cruise.

Since you've been reading these boards, you've probably already seen this. But just in case you missed it, here's a link to a frame grab from the video that I took of the Wonder on 5/29/04:

Can you see the Woner from the Magic when you are on the Western cruise or just the Eastern??

That was a real good question.. I do not think that this 11:00 starboard side sighting can happen when the Magic is sailing on the Western. The Magic hugs the Fl Coast during that trip. And the Wonder coming back from Castaway Cay placing the wonder off the Port Side. The Starboard faces the coast. ON the Eastern the Magic goes out further to start..

Now I want to stress that I am not falling back on anything other then looking at the non-detail travel maps of the ships and the observations of the previous messages.

I do thank all for the help. I am all geared up putting this to the test. Now all I need is a couple of ships and the ocean..

This is like one of those junior high word problems!

If the Wonder leaves Port Canaveral at 4 pm traveling at 35 knots and the Magic leaves Castaway Cay at 5 pm traveling at 25 knots, but in 8 foot seas....what time will the two ships pass in the night? AHHHHGGGG.....Flash backs of Math Class!

If the Magic leaves on time at 5pm, you will see the Wonder at 11pm starboard side for Eastern sailings and 11pm port side for Western sailings. It's a beautiful sight!
