How to resist the urge to buy more BLT points before the price increase

We are throwing the idea around of buying 50-100 more BLT points before the price increase on 12-1. The guide says BLT will be selling out in approx 8 months. I am slightly panicking that we will not have enough home resort points. Although we can make due with what we have.
How do you resist this sales pitch? Of course when BLT sells out there will always be resale. I'm a little concerned about matching up use year through resale.

That is a good question....I coudn't resist the sales pitch, so I added 100 more!!:rotfl: We had a 50 pt SSR contract, and felt that wasn't enough to stay a week for a family of three, and possibly upgrade to a 1 bedroom or even 2 bedroom some years if we brought more family. We added 100 BLT pts before the increase, because we only had 50 pts. Now we have 150 pts altogether, which I feel is enough. I don't think we will ever go higher. If you feel you don't have enough points, I would consider it, but if you DO have enough points, I wouldn't add on.

IF you want to resist think about your dues over 50 years on 100 points...at least about $20,000 on top of $12,000 buy in.

Actualy the buy in would be $10,800. 100 points X $108 per point if purchased before 12/1. $120 pp - $12 pp incentive= 108. Trust me, I have done the math as I am also trying very hard to resist the sales pitch and not add on. Although the gift card and gift basket we would receive for watching the webcast aren't helping....

The annual dues increase is the only thing from being on the phone with our guide right now. I'm giving myself until tomorrow to decide one way or the other, and be done with it.

I was trying to resist too! I called my guide, got all the details, but in the end, couldn't do it! We own at BLT and seems like whenever we go, either the kids or DW or others we take, just want AKL.

I found a nice 125 point contract that is about 2,000 less then the 100 BLT points! I know the dues are higher, but "buy where you want to stay" is so important!

Just figure out what you could buy or pay for with the additional money you pay to buy the points and the member fees for those points. I think I could have paid cash for my son's college education (including grad school) if I hadn't spent money on points.

If it makes you feel any better, I wouldn't place too much faith in that "sold out in 8 months" statement. GCV didn't sell out nearly as fast as DVC expected. Sounds like a total sales pitch to me!

FYI...If you signed for and watched the online video, the offer of $120pp and incentives is good until December 18th.

PS - I too have run the numbers, looked at the resale prices and buying BLT direct still makes sense. Plus, if any of the "rumored" resale changes takes place, you won't have anything to worry about! :goodvibes

if you can make do with what you have - then it is enough.

only added on at BLT when they changed the points. otherwise would have been happy with my 120 points - now have 170 points. but that is just me. like to have a little more than I need because they have been raising the points each year since BLT has opened.

The 8 month sellout keeps coming up from multiple sources. I also believe the BLT will sell out by next summer. The resort is about 75% sold out of available inventory. Its the only DVC resort selling near projections.

And anyone who has been here a while knows how long you have waited to own there!

We have our vacations semi-planned out through 2014, with half of the stays at BLT using our 160 pts; doing studios, 1 BR and a 2 BR trip. While more BLT points would be nice, I'd like to first get through a couple of years of DVC vacations before I decide if we really need more. With the rising cost of MF's, I will probable rent points for the occasional bigger vacation need. While we love Disney, I am realistic enough to know that we will need a break once in awhile and bank a years points forward, then start the cycle all over again.

Plus we made a promise not to add-on until our original purchase is paid off (mid 2011).

Can you afford the mf's if you are out of work for some reason. Do you have a mortgage to pay off? Help with kids college? 6 months savings in the bank. Cars paid off? I would ask myself these questions before adding onto my timeshare. But, that's just me.

Really? I must've missed that. But then again, I had my computer on mute during it... :rolleyes1 So since I watched the video, I can hold off deciding until 12/18 instead of 11/30?

Well, we couldn't resist. We first bought 105 points--enough to stay at BLT with a MK view in a one bedroom every 3 years with banking and borrowing. This was before the studio sink problem was fixed. Then, just this past September we added on an additional 55 points to allow us to stay every other year with a MK view and 1 bedroom. Well, we watched that web thingy and liked what we saw, and thought about the price increase and well, lets just say, we added on another 100 points TODAY!!! What those points will bring us I don't know, that's DH's job but I know it was very hard to resist adding on!!!

At the end of the video, there was a disclaimer that outlined all the rules and conditions.
