We have well water at our house, and one of our sinks had a slow drip, and there is quite a large rust stain in our sink. I have tried CLR lime, rust remover, and another rust remover, but it is not working. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance...the DIS can answer any question out there!!

What type of sink is it? Mine is stainless steel, and one thing that works really well for any type of stain is to cover it with baking soda, then sprinkle with lemon juice. Let it sit for a minute and then scrub. You could also try bleach.

Also, since the rust removers aren't working, it may not actually be rust. Hard water can leave rust-colored stains.

It is a porcelin bathroom sink...we do have a water softner though...I will try anything!

Try those new "erasers" or brill-o pad....but don't scrub with the brillo....you don't want scratches showing up.

I have hard water stains in my toilets. I spread Soft Scrub with Bleach on the stain and let it sit. The bleach takes to stain out with little scrubbing on my part.

I try not to scrub too much because I don't want to scratch anything.

If you can find it in your area, try using a product called ZUD. If you have a lot of wells in the area, your stores should carry this product.

For about $1.50 you can get something called Bar Keeper's Friend at WalMart. It works really, really well!! And it's cheap!

I was going to reply with this too, it is one of the handiest cleaners to have around. It's non-abrasive, takes out rust and it cleans and shines stainless steel:thumbsup2

I bought a rust remover at Home Depot - it came in a big jug and it worked like magic, the stain just vanished without any scrubbing.

I sometimes get rust stains in my kitchen sink and I use a cleaner (soft scrub w/bleach), it works great!! I put it on, let it set for a minute or two, then apply a little water to get suds and wipe down. Not much effort on my part! :thumbsup2

Another fan of Barkeeper's Friend! When a friend recommended it to me, I thought it was going to be one of those specialty cleaners that cost a fortune! Couldn't believe how cheap it was the first time I bought it - love the stuff!!! It's in a gold can w/ red letters, I believe....

works great on porcelin and also on ceramic cooktops! i used it to get the 'rings' off my jenn aire stove before we sold our house. i wish i had known about it years before.

I went to Walmart and bought some Barkeepers Friend...it got a lot of the stain out, but there is still some left. I did about 3 applications, and scrubbed the last time with the Magic Eraser. I will keep trying though...thanks for the hints!
