I would like to post a Reservation wanted.
New Thread won't let me do it.
Is there a new post button I'm missing?

You can't. All you can do it check the Rent/Trade Board and see who has points to rent. Contact an owner and see if they can make you the reservation.

I seriously doubt you would get that reservation this late anyway.

As Deb & Bill said, our Rent/Trade board no longer accept Reservation Wanted threads. You may post a reply to an existing Points for Rent thread. Also, ALL new thread submissions to the Rent/Trade Board require at least 50 posts before the DIS Board software will allow the thread to be submitted. It must then pass verification for our other posting rules before the thead will show up.

I may have some points up for rent next year. I won't be able to post them unless I have 50 posts??

Thanks.
Kevin

No, you can not post points for rent on the DIS R/T Board unless you have 50 non-Rent/Trade board posts AND beginning February 1, those posts must be fairly evenly space out during the prior 6 months. We will no longer check posting history beyond 6 months.

Also be aware that those posts will be reviewed by the Rent/Trade board staff to be sure they are on topic for the thread and not randomly posted to boost post count.

This policy was instituted because Reservation Wanted threads served as a means for rip-offs, and owners offering pre-existing reservations more than 30 days from check-in.

Someone posting a Reservation Wanted thread could basically be contacted by anyone, DVC owner or not, saying they had the reservation available.

Now, someone seeking a reservation has to contact the owner posting a pre-approved Points for Rent thread. We feel this is safer for those who may be new to renting a reservation, and helps to thwart those that want to bypass DIS policies.

I understand checking out the posts before allowing them on there but I do still do not understand the 50 post rule.

It is just a number the mods/owner have chosen to make sure those renting are active members of the DIS community vs. those who only post for rentals. Hence the actual review of the content of those posts as well, so you couldn't just post 50 things saying "that's nice" or "okay" to get your post count up. Those boards are meant to be a service to those who are active DIS board members, sharing information with others.

Thanks Vicki,
That's a little clearer.

I have been forced to use another rental board as I do not have 50 non trade posts and it is bothersome because I have always been comfortable with the people I met and rented to on this board. I have been a member here since 2001 and really wish that the length of membership could have been considered when changing the rules.

The R/T Board is set up as a service to DIS members. If you can't post to the threads to offer up input on what is going on at WDW, why should you be able to use their free service?

So the next time my DH says "Are you on the disboards again?" I can reply "the moderators are making me do it" :lmao::lmao::lmao:

OK, but be very careful - he might think you have too many points if you need to rent them! ;) :teeth:

I have to hazard a guess that multiple short questions on the same thread debating the Rent/Trade policies and forum are not considered contributing to the DIS either in terms of raising one's post count eligibility? ;)

I'm a long-time fan of disboards, but I spent a lot more time reading than I do posting. Most questions on here are answered so quickly, and if I have a question, some one else has usually asked it already!

That's why I'm surprised at the 50 posts. Nothing said of the time we've been a member, huh? I've got my *points I might want to rent at some point, so we've definitely been around awhile. Of course, we usually end up using our points ourselves, so I'm not a frequent renter either.

Just putting in my 2 cents (and raising my post count!) :lovestruc

Lurkers, by definition, are not an "active" part of the community. It's supposed to be give and take. Not picking on you, just stating a fact. :goodvibes

You can guess that, but you might be surprised. :)
