How to make an easy tutu and hair bows~updated!

I just made my first tutu this weekend for my daughter- she is only 3 months old, so I got 3 yards of tulle, and then folded it in half twice to get a shorter length. It worked out great- here are a couple photos of her from today:

:goodvibes Thanks!!

So, a week and a half later, I have 23 bows and six tutus. If work wasn't getting in the way, I would have opened a store by now! :lmao: I saw a gorgeous tutu on Etsy, so I'm striving to make one as pretty!! It's a fairly inexpensive addiction, so now I'll have something to do during my three week vaca.

What size ribbon is being used? I know this has been asked, but I haven't found the response..... How are you all attatching the bow to the clip?

Thanks!!!

I use 1.5 for the bottom layer and 7/8 for the top. I hot glue all of the layers together and then glue the clip to the bow. I will try to post pictures of what the backs look like.

Linda -
My DD is 15 and she wants to dress up when we go to WDW this July. We bought the size 10/12 costume at the Disney Store about a week or so ago and she tried it on. It fits fine around her torso, but since she is not 10 years old, the costume comes short. It doesn't look horrible, but you can tell its short. She reallyy likes the costume, and really wants to dress up so I'm not sure what to do. Then I saw this thread and thought, what if I make my own costume? Put a tutu with a lime green leotard, and then she could wear the wings, and maybe a bow? What do you think of a tinkerbell tutu? You can PM me if you would like about ideas for tulle as well as sizes. Thanks so much!

Thanks Caitsmama! I wound up adding in pink, lime and orange ribbon.

Here is the tutu in action--along with a special birthday outfit I had made to go with it! :goodvibes

Oh my goodness, this is toooooo cute! I love the photos- especially the one with the butt print! :rotfl: That little girl is beautiful, and you did a great job picking the colors for that tutu for her.

Where did everyone get their shiny tulle? All I have seen is the regular kind around here.

Thanks!

Also, I am so addicted to making these bows now! I need to take some pics.

I'm loving this thread. I have made tutu's for dd for the last couple of years but the bows are a bit beyond me, they look great :goodvibes

Here are a couple of pics of dd in a tutu at DLP on her 1st birthday and more recently in her bumble bee one. My only complaint is the choice of tulle in the UK is so limiting.

Thanks! It was fun but it took me a long time to finally decide what colors I wanted to use lol. I probably bought enough tulle for about 10 more tutus! :D

I found the shiny tulle at Hobby Lobby and Hancock Fabrics. JoAnne's probably has it too but they closed the one nearest my home so I haven't been lately.

Hey there ! I just started reading this thread and I was wondering when the post of how to make the bows and pictures starts. That is an awful lot of pages to look thru and I would really like to make my daughter some bows for our trip and just to have for home and school. I love the tutu's y'all make and I am going to have to try those too, you ladies sure are talented.:worship:.

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it.

My interest turned hobby turned obsession has now turned into an Etsy shop. Search for "princesspookie." Thanks for your encouragement!

What do you have your girls wear underneath their tutus? They seem a little sheer to wear on their own (or I'm making them wrong). Shorts? Regular skirt?

oh that is beautiful!

My girls like to wear cotton bike shorts under their tutu's.
