We are planning to visit in July for DD's bday and would love any tips anyone can share for making the most of the trip at the time of year and manageable with the heat! We have been in: October, September, and May with May being the busiest month we've ever been as a family. DH has went in the summer as a child and is trying to prepare me for the madness haha

We have a tripped planned for July also. We are prepared for a lot of people and are planning on having an afternoon swim break everyday to cool down. I have been looking into also what attractions are air conditioned so we can have a place to go if it gets to hot.

I am interested in other peoples tips because its been a long time sense we went in the summer.

Last year we went in early September which is just as hot, but not nearly as crowded. I brought with me for the first time a towel that you wet and keep on your neck or someplace you want to keep cool. When the towel dried out you just run it under cold water or pour ice water on it and ring it out a little. It actually really helped keep me cool. I've done summer time and it's so hot so this towel really helped. I think it was called keep cool or something like that. It's currently packed away in our travel bags or I'd check the name.

We have gone in August the last couple of years. The heat and crowds are definitely noticeable, but they are certainly not terrible. First, all indoor locations have A/C and you can take a quick break any time. We found it easy to cool off whenever we needed a break. Drink plenty of water (limit the soda and sugar drinks) and the obvious one: sunblock. We would hot the parks at RD before the mid day heat, head back to the resort for a swim or a water park at the hottest part of the day and then return in the evenings. This did tow things. One was to avoid the hottest part of the day walking around the parks. The second was doing RD and evenings means you get to miss the crazy afternoons when everyone is in the park.

It's really not that bad if you plan properly and have the right attitude. We do not stress about running from ride to ride or across the parks. We take our time and enjoy what we get done. Having a positive outlook tends to lead to a better vacation.

Have a good trip.

We will be taking our third summer trip this summer. Our first was just a couple of days as a side trip. We decided it was not nearly as bad as we thought it would be so tried a full trip in August and now are doing it again!

It is HOT. There is no way around it. But, if you plan carefully you can survive the heat and the crowds. We always arrive for rd and usually take a break mid day. The parks are INSANE mid day and that is when the heat is the worst. Go back at night when it is not as blazing hot!

We took frog tog towels for all of us and they worked. Both of my kids had water bottle holders so they could hold their own water. Staying hydrated is key to having a good day when it is hot outside.

We packed a little battery operated fan, and it was fantastic! I wish I would have bought one for each of us. I will get more if we go at that time again. Other than that we just took lots of breaks, and visited air conditioning a lot.

We have been to Orlando the past two Augusts, and are heading there again in August 2014.

The keys for us are to enjoy as many water related activities as possible (waterparks, resort pools, etc.), and try not to over-do or overplan for the outdoor parts of the day. The humidity can really suck the energy from you.

We also try to wear light coloured, light weight clothing (Dry-Fit fabric if possible).

Camelbak hydration backpacks have been life saving for us! Our kids wear them and we do too. They make drinking water "fun" for the kids, so they drink more and thus are happier instead of grumpy and dehydrated. We fill them in the morning with half water and half ice cubes and refill the water as needed throughout the day.

We've been in the summer and are planning again. By July and August you're already used to the heat. Were from Michigan and really by then the temps and humidity aren't too different.

We took frog togs and drank lots of water. We also did the afternoons at waterparks.

Enjoy!
