Okay I am a Disneyland fanatic and my husband and I are about to take his family to the DLR for their first real visit in April. We are working so hard to try and plan things out and make this fun for them so that they will enjoy the experience (but we want to take our time too since this is their first trip).

What one thing would you recommend that you think could impress a family of skeptics? (Just in case there is something I might not have thought of :) )

If you have to try too hard, they just don't get it!
I guess using the tips you see here, would make the visit easier, and more enjoyable to them. To me , the only negative there could be would be crowds and long lines. So if you can utilize the fastpass system, that might help. Enjoy the park and don't try to hit all the rides.
Have a great time!

My father was a skeptic and actually won a trip to Florida which included tickets to Disney World. Everyone laughed as we could not picture our dad is Disneyworld; mom yes, dad no! Well it turns out our father went on every ride and had a great time! I can't imagine anyone not getting that feeling as you walk through the gates and head towards main street. But if they don't get it; don't let it ruin your trip! You may be surprised and they may actually enjoy it!

The first thing that popped into my head was the DETAIL!
DL is perfect down to the very last detail. The craftsmanship is incredible...and if you take the time to notice...it's oh-so very sentimental!!!

All these thing appeal to me tremendously....not sure if it would to skeptics however.

This is the reason I never want to go to DL with my sister and BIL. They over-analyze everything, and would not be able to enjoy it without carrying on to infinity about the commercialism, capitalism, and how evil they think the whole thing is....YET...they still want to go...figure that out!?!?

I guess it depends on what type of skeptics yours are!

Like with everything, either you love it and it's your thing, or it's not. DLR speaks for itself. Just taking them there should do it. But some people, they will never get it, or love it like some of us do! I wouldn't bend over backwards trying to make someone love Disney. Let DL speak for itself and have a great time!

Okay, I have to ask, when in April are you going? That could make a big difference in a plan to impress skeptics.

They may offer a first time visitor badge and the younger skeptics might enjoy the special attention which may increase the enjoyment of the skeptic adults.

Disneyland to me is like baseball or motorcycles... If you love it you see all it's complexity and value but if you don't see it yourself no speech is going to capture that blissful feeling many have that others somehow equate to boring.

My advice is don't try. It will feel forced. Let them find the magic on their own. Sooner or later you will round a corner and an InLaw will come face to face with the character who melts their heart or someone will become super excited and Have To Ride Dumbo Right Now Or They'll JUST DIE! The magic will come to them and it is so much better to let it be spontaneous. :)

We are going the weekend of the 11th-14th. I know it will be crowded because this is the end of spring break for some people, but we definitely plan to utilize fast pass and I am a pretty good expert on good times to see shows and where to sit, and how to avoid crowds etc. And I know they will all put on happy faces because this is the first trip for our nephews too. I plan on just trying not to rush them so that they can see the details as someone else mentioned on here, because I too think that is one of the best things about the parks. I know my BIL will not be impressed by anything so there is no use trying (he can just go with the flow;) ), but for everyone else there is hope! I plan to end the trip with Fantasmic...that would impress anyone right? I know I was pretty blown away when I first saw it!

Strike the right balance between rides and shows/parades.

Feed them a Monte Cristo.

:)
