Can I jsut say i think it is very stupid that they took the gratuity out of the DDP. One of the great things about staying on property is that you have to carry little to no cash with you, as everything is charged to your room!! Now you have to carry cash for meals!

So, do you have to pay cash, or will they charge the tip to your room card? Do we have to tell them that, or will they automatically give you a slip that you can either sign or leave cash? And does everyone still leave 15-20% of the buffets?

you can charge your tips to your room - that's what we did.

Some restaurants automatically put 18% tip on the bill - they remove the items covered under the DDP - and they bring you the bill for the remainder which has the 18% tip on it. Not all restaurants automatically put it on - just check your bill.

We purchased Disney Gift Cards and used those to pay for any appetizers, beverages, and the gratuity. Worked out great!

I just came back from 9 days on the DxDDP and have a few suggestions.

Always remind your sever that you intend to tip using your room card before they bring you the check; otherwise you won't always have a way to indicate how much you intend to tip before they run you room card. If your plan entitlements cover your total check, you won't have a way to add the tip after they return with the receipt to sign.

I would suggest carrying sufficient cash in small denominations to tip the server for a few meals in case they accidentally run room card and close out without asking for how much you want to tip. This happened to me about 3 times (about 20% of the time).

Do you get a bill at the end of the meal w/the total of what you ordered? Is that how you would figure the tip? If I was doing the DDP I would probably order the more expensive items ie...making my bill higher & my tip more than if I were to pay for everything OOP.

You get a bill with your food total and at the bottom are the figures for an 18% tip and a 20% tip.

If you aren't using the DDE card and if you're a party of 5 or less, these are just suggested amounts and you may tip at your discretion.

I got some tip envelopes from the Creative Disign forumn, so i guess i'll just remember to fill those before we leave the for the day.

We were on the DDP for 8 nights earlier this month.

We put all the tips on our room charge except for Yak and Yeti where we tipped in cash. I confirmed with the server that Yak and Yeti is owned by a restaurant chain that makes the server pay the credit card fee if their tip is charged.

I was reluctant to use the room charge at first, because I was afraid our room key would be overcharged, but we had no problems with the system :thumbsup2

ETA- We tipped 20% at the buffet restaurants, too, because the service was great!!

Easiest way is to the room. The server drops off a check that says...

3 adult: $92
2 beers: $8
Total: $100

18% = $18
20% = $20

Your tip: ______________________

You write in whatever you want, and give the server your card. The $92 will be removed when the server swipes the card for the DDP. Lets say you decided to tip $20. The remaining balance of $28(two beers plus the tip) will then be charged to your room.

That's pretty much it - except to note that you will have two receipts you have to sign and at least two, maybe three copies to keep,... one for the plan entitlements used and one for the room charge, and maybe a copy of the original bill before it was split... and pay attention: some servers put one on each side of the little folder thing, some put the ones you have to sign on the left...

I'm pretty sure the whole no tip scheme was put together by the vendor who supplies Disney's register receipt rolls ;)

I also like the DDP much better with the gratuity included!
The best part of the thought of the DDP for us is the all inclusive feeling of pure relaxation with virtally no decisions to make or worries.

I know there are definately good arguments for both sides, but overall I like the gratuity included better!

We've never carried cash, and we have never done the dining plan either. Just charge to your room. We have been doing this since long before the DDP was even though of.

For reasons that I don't fully understand, about 25% of my initial checks did not have a "your tip line" on my recent DxDDP. I suspect it was because, contrary to many reports, the server didn't always ask if I was on a DP, and more than once, when I reminded them, seemed to forget or seem surprised later on.
