We just returned from an AKV one bedroom stay...our first DVC stay in anything other than a studio. We stayed there because we won our four-day trip in the Doorway to Dreams Sweepstakes in Chicago. I wrote on my trip report we are ruined for staying in a studio again when we travel with our two teenagers, and that is the truth. When we first joined DVC, we spent points really conservatively until we kind of got a feel for how we'd use them. I mean, our first trip home was a studio on a Wednesday night low season at OKW. I'll admit, initially I had a stay in the smallest place, get more nights mentality. But this year, because we won the trip (and so didn't have to use any of our own points) plus had banked points from last year, we swung wildly in the other direction and rented a Treehouse Villa for DH's birthday in October. I'm sure when DH and I go without the kids we'll be content in a studio, but when the teens are along...I'll happily burn those points for the extra value they are delivering. One of my favorite things about DVC is that we can customize every stay, and mix and match if we want to.
It is funny how much like "home" it sounds with either the dishwasher happily humming away or the zippers on the clothes in the dryer clicking as they tumble. Of course at AKV, "home" comes complete with giraffes outside the window! When the kids were little they were ok sharing the second bed in a room, but they are too old now, and was it ever nice to leave the air mattress home and set up DS13 in the sleeper chair while his older sister hogged the bigger sleeper sofa. The kids stayed up late and watched TV or played their iPods while DH and I blissfully shut our door to the quiet peace of our room and a king size bed just like we have at home. And oh, we have to cast our vote for the nookie perk as well. Just remember if you are exercising this perk that the balcony runs the full length of the villa.
