How to get Uber from MCO airport to WDW?

just FYI for interested folks ... MCO has special rules for UBER/LYFT ....

in short they can not cruise the area or 'loiter' but must go to special holding areas and be dispatched 'first in first out' just like taxi .......

Per airport regulations, drivers must adhere to the terms below. Failure to do so may result in a citation or restricted access to airport trips. Please note that Uber will not pay for any citations that drivers may incur.

  • When on airport property, the Uber Driver app must be open at all times (drivers must not go offline until exiting the airport area)
  • We’ve instituted a special “first vehicle in is the first one out” (FIFO) system at Orlando International Airport. The FIFO system only works within the designated, geofenced area; drivers waiting elsewhere will not receive trip requests through the Uber Driver app.
>>>>>>
this impacts DRIVERS ... you REQUEST a ride the same way as anyplace else ......

Just to piggy back/hijack on this thread, would an Uber/Lyft XL let our 3 and 7 year old ride in the back? I assume they don’t have car seats.

Always confirm that the driver / license plate of the car matches what is on your app before loading in the vehicle.

I wanted to pull this out. Florida doesn't hae front license plates. So you need to walk to the back of the vehicle and check out the plate to make sure it's "your" rideshare vehicle. When I do this the drivers thank me. They want the right fare to get into the vehicle, and they are glad that I feel safe.

The 7 year old doesn't need a carseat in Florida, but the 3 year old will. If you haven't been to Florida, you will probably want a 5 point harness for all of you, the driving is that nutty.

All depends on where you're from and what you're used to. I've never seen anything in my somewhat frequent travels between Orlando and Melbourne that compare to what I see in Chicago all the time.

Arriving Saturday (first day post-MDE). Two people, minimal luggage. Folks think that Uber/Lyft is the most cost and time-effective way to go? We arrive midday and do want to get into parks promptly.

If you want to save time, I’d go with a pre-booked car service that will be waiting for you upon arrival, rather than having to first hail an Uber or Lyft and wait for it to arrive. Car service will be more expensive, of course.

Maybe to both of those suppositions. If you walk out and are at the Uber queue it shouldn't take more than a minute or two to get your bags in and go. If there is surge pricing it might not be any more than a car service. Could also go straight to the taxi stand.

In my experience there are always Ubers close by the airport, even late at night. Our last time we used it in Orlando our car arrived about 5 minutes after we booked it. It is definitely cheaper, although you will want to make sure you book the correct size vehicle so all of your luggage fits. This is part of the booking process so you won’t miss it.

Like the PP said you will need to download the app and book through there. The will ask for your destination and you will put in the address for the Boardwalk. The app gives you real-time updates and shows you how far out your driver is from picking you up and the approximate time you’ll arrive at your resort. Always confirm that the driver / license plate of the car matches what is on your app before loading in the vehicle. You will need to have a credit/debit card in the app so you can pay (I believe they don’t take cash). I suggest watching a YouTube video on how the app works so the process is smooth and quick.

It is the fastest AND most affordable way to get from MCO to WDW in my opinion.
Do you remember about what you paid?

Unless some has changed there isn't a ride share queue. Ride share drivers wait in a.holdimg area. It takes about 6 minutes minutes for a ride share driver to get to ride share pickup location by SW baggage claim after you request a ride.

I've seen surge prices exceed car service pricing
Edited to add I posted an example $114 plus tip

I have paid as little as $29 and as much as $68 for a one way trip to WDW. Typically it has hovered around that $30ish area. But with DME gone, gas prices skyrocketing, and inflation on the rise, I have no idea what it would be now.

You could just put the route in the app and it will give you an estimated cost. Be wary that the actual cost might be different.

UBER XL is currently $114 from MCO to Wilderness Lodge. UBER X is $78.

Edited to add Rideguru only displays basic Uber rate $50 for XL from MCO to WL

You request a ride after you retrieve your luggage. How long are you willing to wait for the fares to come down?Screenshot_20220420-094143_Uber~2.jpg

There is a virtual queue for both Uber and Lyft that dispatches the drivers first in/first out of the holding lot.

I was responding to the quote above yours. AFAIK there will never be an Uber waiting in front of the terminal. It takes 6 minutes for a car to go from the holding area to outside SW baggage claim.

every once in awhile I have had a Lyft driver load my suitcase, but it's not in their job description.

A large party with a huge amount of luggage, arriving at prime traffic time, might be better off with a car or van service, or Mears Connect, especially if they need multiple car seats.
