How to get to Universial from WDW

We are planning our next WDW trip and this time we would like to do Universal for a couple of days as well. How can we get there? Didn't there used to be a place to rent a car at the GF? We may drive down to see SIL after so we would like to rent a car, but use magical express to get to the resort for the first week.

Looking on the transportation board, I found that the Mears company will do a roundtrip shuttle to either universal or seaworld for $18 per adult, so that's how DH and DD plan to get to seaworld in Dec while I'm at a conference.

ETA- you need to call the day before to make reservations.

The transportation board will be helpful about car rentals.

Alamo also has locations on the Walt Disney World property at the Car Car Center, Dolphin Hotel near Disney's BoardWalk and Buena Vista Palace near Downtown Disney.

We had 3 of us so we took a cab both ways so we could come and go when we pleased. It was $28 each way.

I used Mears transportation a few times in Florida. Great service!

We took ME to WL and then the next day took a free shuttle (you have to call them to come pick you up) to the WDW Car Care Center (right next to the gas station on WDW property). We had rented a car (and got a mini-van as they were out of our size of car) for $35 for the day. We took the car to Sea World and around to some other places and turned it in the next morning and took the free shuttle back to WL.
