You could either go on one of the organised trips from the Hotel New York or catch a train from DLRP to Paris. Hopefully someone will be along who can tell you the prices.

We travelled into Paris from DLRP when we were there in Sept this year. If I remember correctly, the price for 2 adults and 2 children was around €60-70 for one day's unlimited train and Metro travel. You are issued with one ticket each, and you can use these for free travel on that day on both the above ground trains and the underground Metro.

The train journey from DLRP into Paris took about 40 mins. We got off a Chatelet les Halles, which is the closest stop for the Louvre and The Notre Damme. We then took the Metro from Notre Damme to the Eiffel Tower.

Being our first time in Paris, one novel thing about this journey was the number of people coming up looking for money (handouts) on the train. They would either:
i) play the accordian whilst looking around for those passengers who were giving them eye-contact, and then target these passengers for money after their musical piece had finished; or
ii) go up and down the carriage with a young child, handing out a card explaining their circumstances, and then come back round looking for donations (and the return of their card).
They would tend to move up the carriages, one following the other. I did feel rather guilty and so did give one of them some money.

Have a great time! :thumbsup2

Thanks so much for replying and the tips, i like to be organised and know what i am doing.

Do they have english underground maps?

Donna

Without sounding sarcastic the underground maps are in french as the lines are all in french so no point them being in english. All the lines are coloured and labelled really clearly. The trains usually display their final destination point on them and the boards on the platform show the stops they are going to stop at.

We went into Paris last week - get a Mobilis ticket zones 1 -5 which will cover all your metro needs as well. Kids are half price and under 4's are free. If I recall correctly it was 12.50 euros for a full price adult ticket.

We went straight to the eiffel tower and these are the instructions I sent to my friends on the next train....
Get the red line to Chatalet les Halles.
Get off go right up the platform up the stairs and turn right again to go down the next set of stairs and get the blue line 1 stop to St Michel Notre dame. (line B heading towards final destination Robinson).
Get off at St Michel and go right and up the escalator and then left up the next escalator and get the yellow line(final destination Saint Quentin) 4 stops to Champs de Mar Tour Eiffel.

When you come out of the station turn right and the tower is right next to you. If you turn down the road just on your right there is a great cafe we always stop at.

And this is the view from just by it

From there you could carry on down the left bank towards Notre Dame (although it is quite a walk for little legs) or get the Bateau bus which is just across the road. You could cross the bridge and go to Cineaqua in the Trocadero (cheap tickets on tesco club card deals for this and also for the river boats).

Its very easy to get into Paris and definately worth doing! The trains are fantastic and really reliable, the instructions above should be really useful for you - you can't go too far wrong!

ohhhhhhhhhhh those are fab pictures!!! Love them!!!! Seriously you could sell prints of that second one! We too are going into Paris on train on Sat for the day so that info is really helpful :goodvibes

ok so me and my boyfriend (11months there last thursday :D) are going to arriving at explorers hotel on friday afternoon some time. saturday s taken up with disneyland and we're leaving sunday afternoon. Would there be a possibility of getting to paris for an evening or would you not recommend that? my parents are telling me to go to paris but my boyfriend told me that we'd come back to stay in paris another time. so what do you all suggest? he's never been to paris where as i have in 97.

I've done evening visits - its very pretty, the eiffel tower has a lovely night show in the evening. There is also an evening tour that leaves from the hotel new york a few evenings a week - this might be a good way for you to see the sights without it being to tiring?

yeh i was thinking of that, i asked the boyf did he want to do that and he was like no no it's ok. but i'm just going to say, right, we're going here tonight and he has to go lol. Is it worth the money?

Haha I like it! I havent done the trip personally but what reviews I have seen were positive, I would suggest booking up in advance though, in case the bus gets full!

lol ok, think i mite book it once i get there, hopefully won't get too excited and forget bout it! that cud happen! lol i'm like a lil kid at christmas right now :yay:
