How to get to Mass without renting a car?

We are flying down in 2/04 and staying at POR. We need to go to Mass on Saturday night or Sunday. It looks like it would be $50 for the 5 of us to take the shuttle to the shrine on Sunday morning, which is our only EMH day for MK and so would blow that optimal park experience for the kids. So, we'd like to go to mass on Saturday night or Sunday night at 6 pm, if we can swing it. Does anyone know if taxis are available for such a trip, and the cost for a trip from POR to the Shrine and back? I am considering renting a car for the 4 days, but if taxis are available and reasonable that would be a cheaper option. Anyone out there been in the same boat or have any info on this? Thanks!

Can't help you with the cost, but taxis are definitely available. There are seveal taxi stands/holding areas for taxis scattered throughout the property. My advice is to stop at the front desk and have one of the CMs call one for you - shouldn't take more than 5 - 10 minutes for one to pull up.

This will bump your question to the top so maybe someone else can give you a good cost estimate.

I'm pretty sure that Mears discontinued the shuttle service several months back due to low ridership. So a cab would be your best bet. With tip, that will likely cost you about $40 r/t.

You can make arrangements with the driver to be back to pick you up an hour later, most are more than happy to accomodate. Do not pay in advance for the return trip though, just in case.

We're going in January and need this info also. I need to budget this in. I emailed the Shrine to see if they had any ideas. Will let you know if I get a reply!! If anyone else has any info, please let us know!! Mass is a must!!

Still no reply from the Shrine :( . Still trying to figure this one out. I have another transportation issue too--I hate when things "pop up" on you! Oh well, haven't forgotten this--will post if I hear from the Shrine.

Do you have their website address? I would really like to check out the times for Mass.

Thank You!!

It's at masstimes.org. It will give you times for all over the country. You just go to Florida, then Orlando and it will show you all the masses in the area. COOL!!

When you add the cost of airport transportation to the cost of the taxis for mass, you maybe better off renting a car. Playing with the codes on mousesavers, I'm usually able to get a car with National in the $120 to $150 range for a week.

The shrine has their own website:
