My dad has asked me to plan a solo trip for him in early December. I am pretty adept and planning WDW trips, but have only been to DLR once and we drove. I have looked at Disneys website, hotel websites, guidebooks, and can't find how on earth to get there from the airport... I'm not seeing the rough equivalent of ME, so I'm really stuck. I know he'd prefer not to rent a car and to stay onsite, but I'm checking out the closest good neighbor hotels too.

And while I'm at it, which airport do people use?

I know these are probably dumb questions, but I can't find the info and figure its pretty important.

TIA!

You're right, there is no rough equivalent of ME for the Disneyland Resort. People fly into both SNA (John Wayne in Orange County) and LAX. So I'd say go with whichever offers the better fare.

For shuttle information, google the phrase: "shuttle service from LAX to Disneyland" and click on the the first non-sponsored link.

Good idea looking at nearby hotels, quite a few are a shorter walk to the parks than either the Disneyland Hotel or the Paradise Pier Hotel. The Grand Californian is the closest of the Disney owned hotels, but pretty pricey.

I used LAX last time and rented a car. Never again. Going to SNA (Orange County) this time and taking the Gray Line Disneyland shuttle.

This is the way to go to get from LAX (Los Angeles Airport) to DL: Use Karmel Shuttle. They do not loop the airport or stop all over the place on the way to your hotel. I will never use the blue shuttles or others again.

Here is the link: https://www.karmel.com/

Simply have your flight information ready to make a reservation. Also make a reservation for when he is leaving. Always give yourself plenty of time to get to the airport before your flight is leaving LA.

Thanks so much! This is soooo much harder than planning for what I know. My dad has early parkinsons and diabetes and is trying to work on his bucket list. I respect that but want to try to make things as easy as possible for him. If anyone else has any hints about the best hotel for him I'd appreciate it! He would prefer to walk, the closer the better. He will be there for two nights as I can get him nonstop to LAX (can't get him closer w/o huge layovers and multiple stops) early am on Tues. and have him leave on an evening nonstop on Thurs. From what I've read the parks seem a bit quieter during the week? He wants to go during the "holidays" so I was thinking 1st or 2nd week december- is one better than the other? Ugh, I hate not knowing anything!

Closest motel is the Best Western Park Place Inn and Suites. Right at the crosswalk to cross Harbour Ave and walk to the Parks entry gates (5 minutes leisurely). Others that are close are the Carousel Inn and Suites, Park Vue Inn, and the Tropicana. All are about 5 minutes to main gates and all are priced in the same range. He will appreciate being able to take a midday break without a long walk or use of a shuttle to get back to his room :)
