OK, what do we do about suntan lotion? We can no longer bring it in our carry on bags and I am assuming our checked luggage won't make it to our room until later. We will want to hit the parks when we get to Disney and we can't do that without lotion on. I am less concerned about me than I am about my 2 year old son. He has sensitive skin and I don't want to just pick up a lotion in the gift shop that he hasn't used before. Any suggestions? I am sure that I can't be the only one that has encountered this problem.

Thanks in advance!

How long is your flight?

Honestly, sunscreen is slightly more effective if applied, and allowed to soak in. I would take a small bottle, or the bottom of the bottle, and sunscreen him up before you pass through security. That should get you covered for a while anyway.

Barring that, maybe ship a small box of 'stuff' to yourself at the resort, and put your sunscreen in there.

I was concerned about the same thing. We want to got to the pool when we arrive, but I don't want to have to buy expensive sun tan lotion when we get there. I think I might check one of the bags, so I will have to pick it up at the airport instead of letting it go throught the magical express.

That's exactly what we're doing! I'm packing bathing suits, sunscreen, diapers, change of clothing for dinner and any other essentials we might need just in case. :thumbsup2

I think I heard of sunscreen wipes. I'm not sure who sells them. Is that allowed on carryons?

Coppertone and Banana Boat make sunscreen sticks, like a lip balm, but bigger and for all-over. We have a Baby Coppertone and an adult Sport. We are taking those in our carry-ons and are packing a change of clothes and bathingsuits, water socks, goggles in our carryons. We're arriving early morning, so we have our bases covered in case we have to wait to get our room.
I love the spray-on Coppertone, but using the sticks for a day won't kill us. :)

We went August 22 i put sunscreen on everyone before we left for the airport..we had a 7 am flight, the kiddos weren't too happy about this one..lol....anyway i had already packed a new bottle of sunscsreen in the suitcase so we would have it for later. None of my children had any problems doing it this way..even my 9 month old....

I'm mailing sunscreen to my resort and I'll also apply sunscreen to everyone before we leave home. That's my plan!

I had this same delimna but it didn't occur to me until we got to WDW. DH took the girls to the pool when I was still in the room. I suggested that he ask another family at the pool if he could use some sunscreen since we just arrived. That's what he did and someone was kind enough to give him some sunscreen.

apply before you leave home!!!!!! It's possible another parent at the pool may have some you could use!!!!!!!

We're just going to buy another baby sunscreen when we get there. Can't hurt to have another bottle. Our son's already tried two brands of baby sunscreen and it hasn't bothered him.

Except for the sunscreen, pack all of those essentials in a CARRY-ON BAG, not a separate checked bag. What if the airline delays your luggage??? To me, the entire reason for taking ANYTHING in a carry-on (except for things I'll want while I'm actually inside the airplane) is to provide me with a sort of travel insurance in case the airline delays my luggage. My swim stuff, change of clothes, etc., and I'm good to go even if my airline flies me to MCO but flies my bags to MCI and then gets them to me 12 hours later.

Maybe we're nuts  , but we're shipping/mailing toiletries to our resort. Disney resorts will hold packages for guests up to 5 days prior to check-in date. I'll time it so it gets there within that window, so I can call before I leave home to make sure the package arrived.

By doing this, we won't have to unnecessarily slow ourselves down by going to baggage claim to wait for a single bag. I love the DME automatic luggage delivery, but in all honesty, if I was going to slow myself down to wait for one bag, I might as well just get them all at that point and take them all to the bus with me. To me, the benefit of the DME luggage delivery is the time savings, not the lack of lugging the stuff around.

And even though 99% of us know this, I write this for the 1% who don't: If you plan to claim any checked bags yourself at baggage claim, DO NOT put the yellow DME luggage tag on any bag(s) you will claim yourself. DME luggage tags should be put ONLY on bags you want to have automatically delivered to your resort.

With the cost of buying the sunscreen, and then boxing it up, and mailing it to WDW, wouldn't it be easier to buy one small bottle at the resort gift shop (until your checked baggage arrives)?

After the new restrictions I decided to mail a package. I plan to mail shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, hair gel, snax, cereal. I'll carryon spare set of clothes , swimsuit. pjs. Forgot mailing toothpaste deodorant. I definately think this is the safest wayto be sure you have what you need till luggage arrives. I've mailed packages that weigh a whole lot more than this will for about $8 USPS

I agree with Ontfamily....you ARE going to FL. We have sunscreen all over the place. :sunny: Why stress? Just buy it once you arrive. I'd spend the $ and not worry about applying it prior, & being all greasy, etc.

I think the concern was being able to find a particular brand at a Disney gift shop because of possible allergic reactions. Since they're taking DME, they won't have the flexibility to stop at a pharmacy.

I'm in the same boat. If I use anything with a coco butter smell (you know, the suntan lotion smell), my allergies go nuts and I'm stuffed up miserably for the rest of the day. If I use anything with aloe, I have a skin reaction. It took me forever to find brands of sun screen that work for me. Unfortunately, it's not the Coppertone Disney carries.

I'm planning to mail the first day's park supplies to the resort.

Are the sunscreen wipes oK for security. I really liked those instead of carrying sunscreen in the park.

Just an FYI after working as a clinical assistant in a dermatologist office for 2+ yrs, technically, you should apply sunscreen at least 30 min. before going outside to let it soak in, BUT you need to reapply every 90 min to make it truly effective in warding off the harmful rays of the sun so if you're applying before you fly, by the time you land it's time for a reapplication....

We were going to do DME but then changed our minds and decided to do the town car again-if we had gone DME, I was just going to check one bag w/o the yellow tag and claim it off the carousel to board the bus with~that one would have contained the sunscreen.....

GL to you!!! The idea to ship a small box is a smart idea too!! :thumbsup2

why not just buy a new one in a airport gift shop or resort shop, Unless it is a Rx. If it a baby buy baby.
