How to get rid of fruit flies? Help!

So I tried the fruit trap. I got a bottle and put some cantelope and banana at the bottom and did the paper funnel last night. As of right now, quite a few of them are trapped! I'm pleased with myself.

Unfortunately it didn't catch them all and there are still a bunch around. I might try the red wine/dish soap trick next and place them around so I can catch more. My dad also bought spray but it smells gross so I'd rather not use it.

Thanks for the tips!

I usually keep my jar out for a few days, eventually you will catch them all.

they are a big problem this time of year in san antonio. they are gross and in our master bath (no fruit there) and in our kitchen.
i had an exterminator treat the yard as they are coming in through our door when the kids leave it open.
they are minimal in the kitchen now. we have family coming over at the end of the month and i hope they are all gone by then.

If you have a small area to take care of, like an apartment--cigar smoke will also work.

They are breeding in your drains. Like I said before, pour boiling hot water down the sinks & tub or shower drains a few times a day and you will kill the breeding ground. Trust me, it works. I had an exterminator tell me he could come treat my house, but I could take care of it myself for free. It was the best free advice I have ever received. ;)

just put a plant of fresh basil ´the herb`next to were the flies come from no flie will be there

The vinegar/wine/bits of fruit in a jar work good, but you have to make sure there are no crumbs, drips, or food at all left out. Also, windex will kill them if you spray it on them. It worked just as good as the bug spray for me and it smelled a lot better.

I'm just remembering I used an all purpose cleaner on mine once too. There were just so many of them that time! When they would land on the window I would spray them and wipe them with a paper towel, then repeat.
