A customer just said to me that one of my rooms has fleas....AAAAAAAARrrrrrrrrGGGGGG

What to do...I called my exterminator but around here there are none who do emergencies or work Sundays...Is there a spray I can buy at the hardware store in the morning? Are there any home remedies I can use till the Exterminator gets here? She said she does not SEE any but knows they are there because she is allergic to them.

We have white floors and I can't see them...

Help...

Exterminator just called, he's at a restaurant 1/4 mile from here and he is willing to stop by and take a look...YEAH!!!

Hi, Dawn dishwashing deterget gets rid of fleas. If you wash the offending animal in it, then let it sit for about 5 minutes, all the fleas will be dead (doesn't work on the eggs though). I made a weak spray with Dawn & sprayed my carpets with it & it worked. Sbella

I had flea busters come into my house several years ago and they spread a white powder on all of the rugs and furniture. They they brushed the powder into the rug. I believe I waited a day and vacuumed it up. It worked great and cost me between 200-300 dollars. Later I found out what the white powder was; Borax. Yep, the old 20 Mule Team Borax. My vet told me this. I've used it several times, including last evening, and it works wonderfully.

Spread it on. Brush it in with a broom. When you wake up the next morning vacuum. Our dogs are on frontline and our cats are indoors. Unfortunately, about once a season we still find some fleas and treat the rugs.

We use Frontline on all of our animals. Tried Advantix but it doesn't work for us. Frontline is expensive, but it's cheaper than calling an exterminator on a Sunday afternoon.

As soon as the exterminator is through I would buy Frontline tomorrow if I were you. You apply it once a month. Comes with little stickers for the calendar so you don't forget.

The first summer that we lived in NC our boxer had the worst case of the fleas and so did the house. Had the exterminator come out and do the yard and still had the buggers. We did the borax and now do it every year. Exactly as the above poster does and we never have had a problem since.

Is it safe to use the Borax if there are kids in the house? We have been BATTLING fleas like crazy in the house and would like to try the Borax if it's ok to have around the kids. I'd sprinkle it at night after they are tucked in but just want to be sure.
Our St.Bernard is on Frontline but it seems like they just like to hide out in all of her fur so then they jump off and into the rugs and furniture..VERY FRUSTRATING!! :furious:

we had a mild to moderate infestation last year - I did the borax thing and it took care of them!!!! We also used the flea comb on the dog about twice a day and once every couple days on the cats (who stay indoors).

I don't like to use the chemicals on the pets or in my home, so that was awesome...we were hoping to keep the fleas off by giving the dog brewer's yeast....our vet says it works...However, the dog had to have emergency surgery last fall, so we took him off the brewer's yeast while he was recooping...and then came the fleas. I am hoping the brewers yeast works this year because the borax was alot of work,.... but so worth it in the end. I don't want to just automatically use the brewer's yeast every year, because I have heard it is hard on the carpets.

It is safe - but I would have the kids out of the house or in another room behind a closed door while I did it - it stirs up a Little bit of a cloud - low by the floor anyway. I wore one of those fabric masks while I did it. Be careful to put on enough, but not too much or you will be kicking up a cloud. I bought one of those sugar shaker things and sprinkled it on and then worked it in real good with a clean broom. I let it sit for a couple hours and then vacuumed it up.

Sorry to hear about your problem. Last year both our apartment and the one upstairs had bad infestations. We aren't sure who was to blame. Our youngest dog was too young for treatment, they had a cat and the neighbors (rowhouse) live like pigs and have cats that had kittens.

We were bathing our dogs as often as we could and using powder (from Walmart, in the pet section, nicely fragranced) on the carpet. We couldn't spray of bomb because we didn't want to harm the fish in our aquarium. I tried Borax, but I don't think I had enough to cover the area, or I didn't leave in on or brush it in enough before vacuuming. The landlord bought spray for the other tenants from the exterminator.

This year I was not going to let it happen again and started both dogs on Frontline Plus in May. So far they have been comfortable - no itching, scratching or biting. Not only are they comfortable, so are we - no little bites on the ankles. I haven't seen any evidence of fleas so far.

Yes, but it does kick up into the air. I usually sprinkle the borax on the carpet and then take the kids outside. I go back inside and take the broom to the carpets. Then we leave for a couple hours to let everything settle down. I want to add I do open the windows and I do wipe down surfaces when I get home. Even with all the hard work it is worth it. The borax can actually penetrate the larvae and kill all your fleas not just the adult ones.

Thanks guys...I love the Borax idea..

Exterminator looked and said there were NO FLEAS...He is sure of it...He said she was just a nut looking for a discount.
