We will be staying at the AKL our first 4 days and I wanted to know the best way to get to the Flying Fish for dinner. We will have a car but I don’t know if I should park at the Board Walk (since the reservations are not for a restaurant in the resort or is that considered the Board Walk? I was also thinking of parking at Fantasia Gardens and walking to the Swan and Dolphin, then taking the boat. Any ideas on the best way from AKL to the Flying Fish?

I agree. Take the car and park at the Boardwalk. You can either self-park or valet park. Going by Disney transportation would require making a change at an open park or at DD. This could eat up a lot of time.

Dorothy would say to close your eyes, click your ruby heels together three times and say"there's no place like....". Well, lacking ruby slippers myself, I have some alternatives... you can use your car to Boardwalk... the fastest

You can cab it... for those who may read this and don't have a car or plan on drinking and singing at Jellyrolls, or

If you want/need to use Disney transport my vote for an easy and relatively quick trip is Bus to MGM Studios and the Boat to Boardwalk... Flying Fish is practically at the end of the dock and the trip is pretty and relaxing...

...no place like home... don't forget Toto...

Steve-

Just drive and park. Its really easy. I refuse to drive anywhere once we get to WDW -- but the boardwalk is so hard to get to unless you want to take the bus/monorail to EPCOT and walk through the International Gateway and then take the boat or walk to the boardwalk. We drive and park they have special parking for people just visiting the boardwalk.

When are you going?

Michael

We will be there from July 1-11.

If you are drinking and don't want to drive either:

a) take a cab

b) take the bus to DD and then get on the BWI bus.

c) take the bus to MGM and then the boat to BW.

:) :)

I would avoid the bus to Epcot because then you'd have to walk more.

Another option if you want to take the bus...

If Animal Kingdom is still open, take the bus from AKL to Animal Kingdom which is less than a 5 minute ride. Then hop the Boardwalk bus! :)

To get back to AKL, take the boat to MGM and the bus to AKL or if it is late take the bus to DD and then the bus to AKL.

Another option is to grab a cab at the Boardwalk - should be a few dollars. :)

If you have a car, drive to BW, tell them at the gate that you are going to FF for dinner...there won't be a problem. If you don't want to drive for some reason, take a cab.

Thanks for all the great ideas. I was just worried that the FF was not considered part of the Boardwalk and I did not want to park at the Boardwalk if that were the case. I am not a fan of the idea of parking at a Resort I am not staying at and then going into parks and other destinations.

Steve -
On my last trip in January, we just drove over and parked in the lot for anyone. The FF is right next to the grassy area in front of the balcony of Boardwalk. Make sure you check out the copper counters in FF! They are beautiful! Also, make sure you have the Banana Napoleon for dessert there. Outstanding! I like it second only to the Chocolate Vanilla Mousse thingy at 'Ohanas! FF is very cool, and very New Yorky kind of place. Our waiter was from Casablanca!

You will have a lot of fun just walking around the Boardwalk area. Plan on spending some time there watching the fun acts everywhere! There is always something going on there!!!

Tikiman, you big tipper! I say drive from AKL to BWI and valet park. That's what we do and it works out just fine.

Let us know how you like the Flying Fish. We may try it on our next trip.

We went to the flying fish our first night last summer when we were over at the Yacht Club and loved it. We just walked right in around dinner time and got seated. We had:

Starters: Chilled Main Lobster with watercress, avocado and grilled pineapple-curry vinaigrette. $15
Entrees: Oak grilled center cut pork chop w/ cheddar potatos, braised red cabbage and apple butter. $20
Seared yellofin tuna with shrimp stir-fried basmati rice, fragrant peking sauce and lotus root. $21
Creme Brule free for our honeymoon :D

We like to try different things each time but the Flying Fish will be one of our regular stops. I think we will skip the Cape May Café this time.

Another recommendation for an entree (as if there aren't enough fantastic choices) if it's still on the menu is the Golden Tilefish with Mushroom Risotto. DH and I split this one, and it was out of this world!!!
Of course the banana napoleon is something that dreams are made of.....

Enjoy!

We stayed at WL last year and went to Flying Fish. It took us an hour and a half to get to Flying Fish on WDW transportation.( I know I must be the most stupid planner alive!) It took us less than 12 minutes back by taxi from the Boardwalk and less than $12. Taxi cab or car, your choice. It is still embarassing to think how we took bus, monorail and boat to get there. Obviously I didn't have a clue!
