How to get Dad to pay...

Anne--I don't always agree with PL ratings (Millenium upgraded me to their concierge tower and it was definitely 4*) but would you agree that hotels (for those prices) are good for someone who wants to spend a few nights in NYC? OP is from somewhere in NY.

I thought NYC, Lake George (and your idea of Lake Placid) are good alternative ideas for mother/daughter mini vacation.

Yes Lewis, those prices are great as long as you aren't looking for the Four Seasons.

When you bid on PL for NYC hotels can you specify the general area, or do you gte what they give you? ie can you say Mid-Town, Downtowm, etc.?

Anne

You pick a zone and a * level. I select midtown west to get the theater area. When you bid on PL you can see a map of the zones. If you want some more tips send me a PM.

The key is don't be upset if the hotel is "really" 1 * level less than PL says it is.I won't bid 3* even though many of the hotels are OK (Doubletree for example) because some of them are questionable (Sheraton).

Reservations can't be cancelled or changed. I sometimes wait until a week before.

BTW Most people would expect the 4 Seasons to be a 5* hotel. Anyone bidding a 4* on PL would be crazy to think they would get a hotel like the 4 Seasons, Plaza etc.

Though you have a lovely idea of treating your mother to a nice vacation, I do have to agree with what the others have been saying about your situation. Now does not seem like the best time to take a vacation. Would you really enjoy yourself knowing that your mom is not at all into a trip, and that your father is not supportive of it, and besides that, you have to look for a job when you come home? The cards don't seem like they are in your favor for this trip. You will definetly enjoy it and appreciate it more when you go with your own money and travel with others who love Disney World as much as you do. You do seem genuinely concerned that your mom needs a vacation, so why not let her choose a destination (besides Vegas--do that next year when you're 21!) that is close and affordable? I'm almost 23, so we're pretty close in age. I've been fortunate enough to have gone to Disney with my boyfriend for the past three years, but it was only because we could afford it. I would never have gone if I had to rely on my parents, nor would I have gone with someone who is not even into the trip. Think twice about this one. Wait until you are financially secure, and wait until you have someone who wants to go as much as you do. Let us know what you decide to do!

Someone mentioned Lake George. I'm a resident of the Saratoga/Lake George area, so I know what there is to do, I just wondered what vacationers to the area like to do best. Favorite restaurants, activities, etc.

To keep this on the budget topic, how much do you plan for a week in Lake George? I know the hotel rates are very high in August, I also know with the wet weather we've had a slow start to the season. :( Restaurants prices are comparable or a little less than on-site Disney IMO

OTOH, the success of Funny Cide has brought more interest in horse racing and Saratoga. The restaurants/bars are having a booming business on race days. Fingers crossed that he wins this afternoon. :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc
