Does anyone know a good way to clean your keyboard and get crumbs out?? I have crumbs from 1999 in my keyboard!! :scared1: :scared1: I could probably make Shake N Bake from all the crumbs I have in my keyboard. Anyone know a way to get them out? I tried tipping it upside down, but that only helped a little bit. It made me realize how much I eat at my computer! popcorn::

I just have to say EWWWWW about the shake -n- bake idea. LOL :lmao:
You need to get one of those cans of air they sell for blowing all that junk out of small spaces.

The last one I purchased was from Staples. About $3 and lasted a few years.

Hi! Me again:thumbsup2 Vacuum cleaner? DBF uses canned spray air. If it was a cheap keyboard you can try the dishwasher, top shelf, upside down. The people I know who have done this have about a 90% success rate, but you could ruin your keyboard.

You can buy cans of air that blow that stuff out. You can get it at any office supply store I would imagine. Just be careful to not leave it around for anyone to get into trouble with (especially teenagers). It will spray all that stuff out of there!

Try the pressurized air dusters. You can find it at office supply stores or maybe even Wal-Mart and Target. It comes with a straw to get into the nooks and crannies. Don't get to close! The stuff comes flying out!

Is it a laptop or desktop?

on my laptop, I take the keyboard off about once a month and spray it with the canned air. I eat a lot of pringles while I'm at the computer. :surfweb:

A new keyboard only costs about $20 for a desktop.

I've never heard of putting a keyboard in the dishwasher.. I cringed when I read that. Perhaps that suggestion was put out into the public by Best Buy. Generates a few keyboard sales.

It is actually my work one and the State of NH owns it, so I don't think they would be in agreement with it. I tried to get them to purchase the cans of air and they won't so maybe I will have to bend and buy one myself. Does CVS offer these free after ECB???? :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl:

I'm sure you can work a deal using your $4 off $20!

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG, I am sitting here dying of laughter in my cubby. I think I have officially gone over the edge...there is no recovery for me.

I've vacuumed my keyboard before. Just hope that all the keys are secure or you might vacuum off one! It's hard to type with a missing letter. You could put a foot of pantyhose over the end of the hose, under the brush attachment, then if anything bigger than crumbs comes off, you're not rooting through the vacuum bag to find it. It works when trying to pick up pins and needles, so I don't see why it wouldn't work on a keyboard.

Google it, I'm for real. It is at your own risk though.:scared:

ETA: I, personally, would only try this with a keyboard that was at the point where it was "come clean in the dishwasher or you are going in the trash." I would not try this even with our $50 ZBoard.

Okay I am dying here...just picturing myself with one of those vacuums you strap on your back, vacuuming my keyboard and all the keys coming off!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: oh, it's just too much!!!!!!

If it is a standard keyboard (and not a laptop), just turn it over and gently whack it (like burping a baby) to release the crumb shower :) Then, use a can of compressed air to blow out the rest - be careful not to shake the can of air lest you get frostbite ;)

OK, seriously, you sound like me at my desk. I'm so away from anyone else out here but I continuously find things that just make me laugh and laugh. I have some regulars that come over to see "what's funny today."

I think it's having kids that has just made me nuts! Although, I remember being like this when I was young. Things would just hit me as hysterical or not and I'd laugh for days. :confused3

You'd probably want to google your model for specifics..

I have a Dell.. there is a small strip of plastic (with the power buttons) directly above the keyboard. You can pry that off with a screwdriver (there are little slots on each side)..

then, you will see screws that hold in your keyboard. It has a plug as well.. after you unscrew it, just unplug it.

very simple.. :)

now, I need to go read the articles about washing the keyboard in the dishwasher.. I did IM a friend of mine, that works in the computer industry.. and he agreed, it seemed possible, about a 50/50 chance.. that it depends on how close your water is to being distilled. That hard water would kill it for sure. It just seems crazy to me.
