How to get an upgrade...

Just wondering. Our room is a standard at POR. Not that a view of the parking lot really bothers me, but I have read some people's posts that said they got upgraded to a better room. How does this happen? Do you ask when you check in? Bat your eyelashes? Or is it something that is totally random? I'd like to upgrade if we could (but hey, who wouldn't?). :earsboy:

Thanks!

The first thing I would do is call and request to have a "non-parking lot view" request noted on your reservation. But honestly at POR there is very little difference between the waterview rooms and the standard rooms. The rooms themselves are identical. The river is quite a distance from any of the rooms and there is a good deal of foliage covering up the view. I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about it. Good luck though!

:sunny: Years ago when we stayed at CBR, we were told that we were being upgraded to a garden view when we checked in...no need to ask. If going in an off season, I think if the resort is not full, they will give upgrades if available. During the crowded season no real sure...but it never hurts to smile nicely and ask. All they can do is say no.
Good luck. :cheer2:

There are some very nice water views in the Mansion section. We had booked a standard view for our trip in Dec. When we arrived we were given a lovely view of the rose garden and a corner room. We were very happy. Not sure if I would pay extra for the water view. Having the walkways right outside the windows made me keep my curtains closed quite a bit more than I thought I would. We were not in the room much to sit and lounge and stare out the window, so I don't think the view really makes much difference to us. We are going in August and will be happy with whatever view we are given due to the fact that we won't be in the room much. To me the location of the room to the ammenities is more important to me. I don't want a long hike to the main pool or food court.

I got upgraded from a woods view to a courtyard view at WL. I did not ask, but I sure did appreciate it. It was my first ever upgrade, and maybe my last. I appreciated the pixie dust..it came at a great time.

When it comes to moderates and values, I think the location is more importatnt than the view. You don't have a balcony, and I have never spent time sitting by the window because there are people walking right past your room. I would request a room that is located near what you want to be near (food court, bus stop, pool, etc.).

other than water views, all the views are 'standard' whether you have woods, courtyard or parking lot, so it's not that you want/need an upgrade, just that you'd prefer NOT to be facing the parking lot.
