How to fix Disney's "weak teen market"

Ooh, definitely agree. It’s kind of pitiful that all of Walt Disney’s classics have been almost totally lost under a mess of Hannah Montana and HSM

Honey, that’s not a rant, it’s truth <3 For all they complain about wanting more money from boys and teenagers, they really don’t make much of an effort to cater to anyone but girls ages 4-12, do they?

Absolutely. The one and only movie they play that isn’t a DCOM is Cars, and I think that’s ridiculous. It’s called the Disney channel, so why the lack of Disney magic?

ya well i agree. exspecially with the hm crap

i think that disneys teen market can't really fly so high. if u ask kids why they don't like to go, they say bc disney is too childish. the only thing that i can think off is their teen clothing line... that might be the only way

see the thing is they do have a teen clothing line. but is very minor and very hard to find and a lot of it is way too expensive for anyone to buy it.

sorry for the rest who i didnt think of quoteing

i saw a couple posts about a villian park. i will join those in thinking it is a good idea. although little kids may not enjoy it it should be there. many people dont enjoy water parks so they dont go to that certain park. it could be the same way for the villian park.

i aslo saw a post that someone said that the villian store wasnt very impresive towards the villians and that most of it was jack stuff. i agree partly. the villian store is srinking drastically by the year.

but i enjoy the jack stuff. and really i dont think he qualifies as a villian but rather as a darker character. because tnbc is not your average storytale. it is more of a freespirit trying something and admiting his wrongs while being unique and atuned to hiself.

they do need to put more focus in the shop. i do agree on that. they dont have the classic villians like hook, ursula, ect.. but rather thaey have the darker minded unique characters. they are trying to get the cheshire cat's thing up. but once again he isnt a villian. in fact here he is a helper to the main character.

so disney needs to think of how they are putting things before they say it.

so please disney bring your original magic back :wizard: please

Stop making us wake up at 4 A.M. to watch Little Mermaid reruns.

I don't think there's anything I can add, give us more classics and less of those autotuned folk they're using for quick and easy money.

On TV, in stores, and in parks.

I'm not a huge thrill ride fan, so I can't agree wholeheartedly with the concept of a park with more thrill rides, but I can agree that it'd draw a wider teen demographic.

I've wondered for a while now, if Disney Channel showed legit, classic Disney programs (such as classic movies or cartoon shows) in primetime spots as opposed to their norm, how would their ratings change, if at all?

I also want them to bring back that channel in the resort that played classic cartoons.

This probably won't help the teen market but I just had to say it. I loved that channel.

I think Disney Channel went downhill when they stopped giving us truly relatable characters.

Who could you identify with more: An average girl trying to do the right thing, or a girl who lives life undercover as a pop sensation?

and I agree on the classic cartoons. Had a few VHS tapes of those old shows. :o

I agree that they definitely need to bring the old disney channel original movies back. the other night i was flipping through the channels and saw Brink!:worship: That is the best show ever! and i also agree that those characters were a lot easier to relate to than the ones now. Granted they wouldn't be able to play all of the movies i.e Zenon, it's the 21st century now and i don't live in a space station:confused3 just sayin.
Also right now, 3am Jett Jacksons on!!
RIP Disney channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHwlbifkdyc&feature=related :sad1:
I highly doubt that they would ever open a villain park, it just seems anti-disney. but they do need to add some more thrill rides. Like maybe bring back ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter:scared1: instead of Stitch's Great Escape:(. Other than adding a few thrill rides i don't think they need to change the parks all that much.

This is slighty braggy but something i've noticed you guys complain about is the TV shows. I would say add a channel to the USA similar to Disney Cinemagic in the UK. It shows 3-6 movies over the day from the classics like Snow White, Cinderella, Dumbo, etc. to more recent movies like Tinkerbell, Bolt, High School Musical 3, etc. Along with that, they show cartoon series like Kim Possible, Aladdin, Lloyd in Space, etc. and sometimes cartoon shorts.

Something else Disney could do is have a nighttime block on DC that shows the older TV series. Something like from 9:00 to 12:00 or maybe later.

I would agree that there needs to be more thrill rides. There aren't really many in WDW. The best choice would be Disney Hollywood Studios, which needs more rides and can be seen as the closest Disney has to a teen's park. It's far from it, but is the closer than the others.

I remember a rumour that Disney was going to add a halloween party to DHS themed around Nightmare Before Christmas and would be for a more older crowd than MNSSHP. That could be interesting.

Something that isn't about teens, but I want the previous narration for the TTAP back -_- I don't like the current one. Just adding in Tom Morrow again isn't enough for me either...

They either need more villians around, or a villian park. Darker, scary rides and coasters, spooky atmosphere, villian meet and greet, awesome villian merchandise and a cool themed restaurant. It still could be family friendly because I know at least when I was a kid I loved Halloween and spooky things. Disney needs the thrill draw that Universal currently has.

Agreed, and I also like the idea about the classic disney movies being played.

they even ruined thats so raven by making it unnormal. the white house? really? how many kids get a chance to live in the white house? none... unless your parents are president which happens like every 4-8 years!

I agree. That's So Raven wasn't that bad. Her psychic abilities weren't all-knowing. She only got bits and pieces, and she tried to work around those and sometimes they didn't turn out so well. Now all we have are Mary-sue characters who are perfectly perfect in every single way and get whatever they want pretty much (except for Good Luck Charlie though, that's decent)

Like the recent Hannah Montana episode for instance (synopisis in white)

Jackson has a girlfriend. The girlfriend catches Miley as Hannah. Miley tells Jackson that he can't tell his girlfriend the secret, even though her two best friends AND her own boyfriend know it. At the end of the day, the girlfriend finds out the secret, and Miley pouts the whole way. The end.

Nobody can relate to that. There have been a few episodes of Jackson's "jealousy", and sure most of us could relate to that. But they lightly touched on it, and Miley usually gets her way and basically ignores Jackson.

I agree with all of this. Nick has Nick at Nite and plays George Lopez, The Nanny, Malcolm in the Middle, and Family Matters. I think DC should do something like that.

My favourite movie (Disney or otherwise) has always been Hercules! I was shocked the first time I went to WDW to see nothing to do with Herculues in the parks. My favourite Disney memory is when I walked into a little shop in Hollywood Studios on my 3rd trip there and saw a Pegasus teddy. I was 16 and a guy, but boy was I happy.

It's already been said a hundred times on this thread, but incorporate the classics more into the parks. I agree with the poster above me. Hercules is one of my all-time FAVORITE movies of any genre. And it's nowhere to be found in the parks. Anywhere. I feel like Pixar and Hannah Montana are taking over, and I'm not really likin' it. Don't get me wrong, I love Finding Nemo. But it's EVERYWHERE. I miss the old Living Seas sometimes. And I will ALWAYS miss Tarzan Rocks. That show was beyond amazing.

I also agree about the merchandise. I'm 17 years old and I wanna be able to find a Toy Story shirt that isn't for toddlers! We're the ones who grew up with these movies, not the kids today. Or what about t-shirts for us in general? I would kill for any kind of Lion King t-shirt. But they don't sell them anywhere that I've seen. Which kinda bothers me since that's one of their greatest movies to date (or in my opinion anyway).

Granted I love Disney no matter what they do. It'll always be my favorite place, but improvements are definitely needed.

Oh and the villains!! Where's the representation for some of my/our favorite characters! Hades (<3), Maleficent, Scar, etc. I LOVE them. And I'm obviously not the only one. Again, I'd kill for a Hades shirt. He's just awesome. But any thrill ride or MGM expansion would be swell too. Just anything!

Sorry for the rant! I like discussing this subject. It's always been a hot button issue with me.

sweet! i would LOVE for that to happen! that is my all-time favorite movie

i think they should just do what someone else mentioned and have all the old shows

Now that I think about it, maybe they shouldn't focus only on incorporating more classics into the park, but some of the most popular rides at park have no relation to movies made before their construction. Pirates, Haunted Mansion, the Mountains.

Maybe if they also created more rides that have the classic Disney park feel to them, without throwing their characters at us at every turn, more teens wouldn't consider Disney so childish.

Well, Pirates does have Davy Jones, Barbossa and Captain Jack now.

I do think that they handled it well though. The ride is not all about the characters. If anything, they are simply making cameos.

But I do agree with you.

Well, Splash Mountain's movie came out before the ride did. But since "Song of the South" is banned in the U.S., hardly anybody I've met knows this.

only the original with live action characters is banned. apparently if you turn a black man into a rabbit, its not racism anymore. and that former-human-rabbit is still all over the ride, with the same plot as the movie. i definitely do not understand why disney has gotten away with it for so long.

There is a park like this already....... Universal Studios.:rolleyes1
