Sorry - I know this has been asked before, but we are boarding a 9 AM flight at BWI and I would like to know how see where the flight originates. We usually book early flights but this time we can't. Thanks for your help.

www.flightaware.com is a good place to track flights. I would start by searching your flight number (usually the same each day) and take a look at where it originates. This is a good source for tracking on the day you're flying also because if the plane hasn't left the origin...you'll know not to run to the gate!

I love that site. That's how I keep up on my husband's flights and when I need to head to the airport to pick him up.

Just a heads up - just because you are leaving first thing in the morning, doesn't mean the plane has been sitting there all night waiting. I used to think this, and then a few weeks ago I took a Friday night red eye home from a business trip to San Francisco. The plane left SF an hour late. I was somewhat surprised when we got to Boston at 7:30 am and there was a gate full of people heading off on vacation who were leaving an hour late because they were waiting for our plane to come in.

Usually the air carrier's website will have a page which shows their entire flight schedule. Download that and enter your flight # into the "find" box (Control+F). If the flight originates somewhere else you will see it in the schedule with an arrival at BWI in the 8:00 AM hour.

I'm assuming the OP is asking about Southwest. SW doesn't schedule red eye flights. SW got rid of most of their early am flights. PP told the OP how to check but I think it's likely the flight is originating in BWI. That suggests the plane arrived the previous night.

Checking the status of the incoming flight isn't foolproof. An airline will sometimes use a plane that was originally intended to be used for a different flight. Although rare one poster was in a situation where a delayed flight went directly to its final destination, skipping an intermediate airport.
