How to Enter Disneyland from west side

I'm looking at staying at the Annabella for our trip coming up next month. It's close to the convention center, which is important. How do you enter DL from this side? I heard that you can't go through the Grand Cali anymore. What path would we take to hit security from the Downtown Disney side?

walk past PP and instead of crossing the street to the Grand, turn left towards the DL hotel and you can enter between Earl of Sandwich and ESPN

You're looking at a walk of right at 1 mile from the Anabella to the esplanade. Walking to the eastern gateway is essentially the same distance, but you don't get to walk through Downtown Disney.

If you are not a registered guest, you can not go through the front entrance. But you can still enter through DTD and CA.

Sheesh, that's a heck of a walk. I was thinking Anabella would be good since it's so close to the ACC, but that walk.....having to walk around Paradise Pier and into DtD makes for a lot of extra steps. Thought it would be nice to avoid the east side security. Back to the drawing board.
