Yesterday I started a new job, I know I should be happy, but by the end of the day I wanted to cry.

I'm going back today to give it another try, but if by the end of the day I still don't feel like I should be there, how do I say thank you for the chance and move along?

I worked at a company for over 8 years and then they closed thier doors 2 years ago, I loved working there and enjoyed going to work. I've since had 2 jobs in 2 years and now I'm at my 3rd.

It's getting me so depressed, that I just truly want to give up. I'm not looking for my old job, just a job and a company that I enjoy working for. Seems like all I keep meeting up with are bosses that are truly jerks.

I'm at a loss and don't know what to do. Dear Abbey HELP!!!!!

Maybe you could give it a little more time. It takes 3 months to adapt to living in another area. Maybe it's the same with a new job? Unless the boss is truly a jerk of epic proportions, I'd try to stick it out for 3 months and then see how I felt. Good luck...changing jobs is never easy :grouphug:

Unless if something illegal is going on, I would stick it out for a while.

What do you do Barb? When I started my job I was totally overwhelmed and definately not sure it was for me- that was over a year ago and now I love my job and MOST of the people I work with. Give it some time....

I use to be a bookkeeper, and this job I took, is a sales support position. I thought maybe I needed a change of pace. I'm hoping things are better today.

I'm of the thought that if you hate it that much in the beginning, it won't get better. You hate it, so you set yourself up to dread going in, and it becomes a vicious circle (cycle?).

I had a job several years ago that I knew from day 1 that I hated. I called my old office to beg for my job back, but they had filled it. I spent 6 miserable months there before I was able to get back to my old job.

If you are SURE that you dont want the job its better to go ahead and quit before they invest too much time and energy and money training you. If I were the boss I would much rather that you go ahead and leave now. We've had that happen at my company and they are a lot more understanding when people leave in the first week or two instead of waiting until they are fully trained and then leave.

I think maybe you are just feeling overwhelmed. Give it some time. Once you are trained, and have spent some time and have a better handle on things, it will be better.

I would stick it out a little longer. 3 jobs in 2 years is going to look bad on a resume. Maybe something else in the company will pop up in a few months that will be better. I think everyone feels overwhelmed their first few weeks of a new job. Things might get better over time, too. Judging everything after just one day is a little harsh.

I say give it a little more time. It's always hard starting something new. A new job and all new faces can be overwhelming. Give it time to get familiar with the job and the people, you may be surprised. If in a 2-3 monthes you are still miserable then start looking for something else. Best of luck on your 2nd day :wizard:

This is a really good point.

When I went in to talk with my new boss (I start my new job on Monday), she said that one thing that really stuck out about my resume was that I held jobs for the most part for over 3 years each. My current job (the first one after college) I've been at for 5.5. My high school/college jobs were 2.5 years (reason for leaving was that the place closed) and 4 years each. She actually told me that she does not even really look at resumes with a lot of 6 months; 1 year etc. because she wants to see stability.

Try to stick it out for a while longer.

What is it about this new boss that is so bad? I find it hard to believe any boss would want to start out a new employee on the wrong foot by being a jerk on day 1. I'm sure it does happen, but I just find it very unusual. Could you just be overwhelmed and maybe percieving your boss to be mean when he/she really is not?

Another indicator might be how long other employees have been there? A really nasty boss is going to have a hard time holding on to long term employees. Does this place have high turnover? If it does not, and most people have been there for a while, that's a pretty good sign that things will work themselves out.

 I hope it works out for you.

It sounds like you are looking for just what you had. I would set yourself a deadline and it shouldn't be two days!

Tell yourself you are going to stay one month no matter what. That gives you an end in site... If you still hate it then you proabably are in the wrong job.

What did your boss do that made you think he was a jerk?

Voice mail.

I had a secretary who worked for me for one day. That night she left a voice mail message that she was resigning.

I'm here and still not enjoying it.

Sales support is not for me. I'm a much better bookkeeper. From what I understand, they had a woman quit the first day and one go out for a smoke and not come back.

Out of curiousity ... what made you TAKE the job?

:earsboy:

When my 1st company closed it doors, I took a job but it didn't pay well, after 10 months I got downsized and he closed his doors. The other job I was in I was looking for more money it was something to hold me over till something better came along. Well the owner (who was a total jerk) found I was looking and fired me. So I ended up where I am. I thought I would like it, but I really don't.

Yikes.

Well, lay off as a reason for leaving are different than someone who just keeps leaving jobs.

I hope things work out for you.

Are you negative feelings just snowballing and you aren't seeing the job for what it really is? Or are you missing the feeling you had at your last job and because it's not here right away, you feel bad about it?

My job got shifted to another department and I got along REALLY well with the old dept. When I got to the new one, I wanted it to be the same.. but it wasnt, at first. It took time.

It all depends if you really hate the WORK you are doing, or is it something else.
