Hello - I rarely post, but lurk an awful lot. I'm hoping someone can help me with this question:

We are leaving for WDW on Nov 29th. I have recently sprained my knee. I anticipate being able to walk with a cane but know I will have trouble negotiating the parking trams. How does one arrange to be dropped off at the park entrance before the rest of your party parks the car? Any info will be appreciated!

I hate to say this but if you don't think you can get on the tram how do you think you are going to get on the rides?

I had a sprained knee and was on crutches for 5 months and would have been able to get on the tram with a little practice.

You can request parking next to the tram. Better yet if you are staying on site ride the disney transportation.

You can ask the parking lot CMs (the first one you come to and any others that you see) and they will direct you. There is a place close to the handicapped parking for each park. I am not sure about MK, but I believe the drop off point is at the Ticket and Transportation Center, which means a walk to the boat (a longer walk) or a shorter walk to the monorail (but a long walk up a steep ramp). For MK, if you are staying at a WDW resort, I'd suggest you take the bus. The bus stop at MK is about the same distance to walk as where the monorail and boat drop you off at MK.

You may think you won't have much problem walking around the parks, but most people walk between 3 and 9 miles a day at WDW. That's a lot of walking and I think you would do well to consider a wheelchair or ECV. Also, some of the rides involve a long step down (like POC, Splash Mountain, etc) that may be difficult with a bad knee, as Michigan suggested.

Thank you Michigan and Sue M!

I know there are rides that I may not be able to go on because of this. I'll just have to suck it up. This trip is for our 25th wedding anniversary and has been in the planning stages for three years so I'm not giving up on it! I've already had to give up the golf portion ;-)!

I'm just trying to save as much wear and tear as I can. I anticipate being able to walk fairly well, but stepping up and down, I believe, will still be a challenge by then. I do plan on a wheelchair or ecv if the going gets tough.

Wish me luck!

Since it sounds like your questioning whether you will need a wheelchair or scooter to use at disney.

I highly recommend printing out the couple companies name, and phone numbers and bring them w/ you on your trip. After the first day you may change your mind, and having the convenience of the ecv w/ you at the resort, is going to be better than having to get to the parks to get a scooter.

This gives you options. If you don't need the ecv fine, but if you do, some recommended options are nice to have on hand.

Good Luck
