How to do ADRs for two families

We're planning to meet up with some friends at one of the restaurants.

Is it possible to be seated near each other with two separate 4-person ADRs, or are we better off getting an 8-person ADR?

It is better to make 1 reservation for all 8 people.

If you have 2 ressies for 4 people, when you get there the tables may be across the room from one another. And if you ask to have them together, the host/ess may say ok, but you would most likely have a huge wait until 2 tables cleared that were near each other.
