My 3 yr old DD is intent on wearing one of her princess dresses to CRT in August. Our ressies are at 10:20 and we are going into the park for EE that day. How do you deal w/ the dress? Do you change your princess before the meal? Do you let her tour the park as a princess? Is that a ginormous pain? I am concerned that she will be hot and uncomfortable walking around in a big princess dress, but I know that changing her in the park has disadvantages also. All advice is appreciatedprincess:

When we did this with our DD I just had her wear shorts and t-shirt under the dress. When she was ready to take it off, we just slipped it off and put it in my backpack. Lots of little princesses wear dresses around the parks, especially those who have been to BBB. Let her wear it.....they're only little once:lovestruc!

My daughter wanted to wear her snow white dress in mid-Septemeber...Till she got to WDW and realized how how and humid it was.She put it on for 5 mins and then yelled she was too hot and scratchy and refused to wear it .My advice , bring shorts,a tshirt, undies etc with you in case she changes her mind,

We had lunch at Akershus at the end of August. We had the girls in their regular clothes, and just had them change right before lunch (and change back right after).

Thanks. I was wondering about this too. My little would love to dress up and I thought about doing what was suggested. Thanks!

We've opted for short-sleeved bright pink cotton dresses with frilly but not obtrusive tulle-trimmed skirts (from Naartjie Kids) for our trip in late May. I'm calling them "princess playdresses," and I'm optimistic this will work. :) We shall see...

My DD insisted on wear a Snow White dress in June and she was HOT, but she refused to take it off. We found air conditioning for lunch and made sure she had lots of water. With all of the special attention the girls dressed up get from the CMs it is easy to understand why they wouldn't want to change! DH did spend more time carrying her which meant that he wa covered in glitter as well, but he didn't mind :goodvibes.

We did this as well in Sept. It was super hot but the girls didn't care. My 2 yr old kept hers on the whole time and my 4 yr old would take hers on and off. It was very easy since she had clothes on underneath. (This is how she wears them at home - she can't stand the itchy seams) I carried a sack from one of the stores and would roll the dress up and put it in there. We had breakfast at CRT and then toured MK. One of my favorite memories was watching them dance in the middle of Fantasyland in their princess dresses.

I always bring a change of clothes with me. As it is hot enough in Aug/Sept why put her through the extra heat of clothes underneath.

My daughter had a BBB appointment after our breakfast at CRT. She wanted to wear her dress so bad on her birthday last year. We let her wear it through breakfast, and her appt. We immediately began to look for Jasmine at the point (daughters favorite). Once we saw her and got those special pictures with her, We found the closest restroom and got my daughter out of her costume. She was a much happier child afterwards.

:rotfl2: I had to laugh when I read your post:goodvibes, only because my experience with DD (3) last year & CRT. Let's just say that CRT ended up being Cinderella's Royal Tantrum! :lmao: We were staying at CSR and I decided to dress DD there in the princess costume (It was also June & 98 degrees). What a mistake....by the time we got to CRT, my child was fussy & said the costume was itchy, she was miserable....When we finally got up to have our picture made, my DD snubbed Cinderella.....:scared1: So our castle pic has my Mom holding DD with her head turned...:rotfl2: Thank goodness I had an extra outfit in her diaper bag so we ran to the restroom and changed. When I took the costume off I noticed it was a little small for her arms.....No wonder she was so upset!! After that, she was having a wonderful time:goodvibes Another parent that was beind us in line said the same thing happened to them last year. So this year the Mom dressed the child in light weight clothing and then slipped the costume on over her clothes. Then she took it off after dinner. :thumbsup2 I wish I had thought of that!!! Oh, and my Mom looked at me and said...next time, I could wear the itchy costume in the 100 degree weather....:rotfl2:

Our DD who is 4 wore her Cinderella dress on our last trip with her vest and shorts underneath, when she got too hot she just took it off, if she wanted it back on she knew that she could.

We also had the Ariel mermaid costume (not dress) which was a lot cooler than the full on princess dress so she wore this one quite a lot too.

Hope that your trip goes well!

I made my dds dresses to wear in the parks that were made from lighter weight material and didn't have the itchy seams. They loved the extra attention they got during the day from the CMs.

We were also having a lunch with Cinderella, and so the two girls wanted to dress up (7 and 4). The alternate we found to the puffy princess dresses was these cute little princess nightgowns at the Disney store. Saved some money, and kept the girls cool and comfortable. Here's a picture of them in them (Yes, that is me in the Alice dress lol. They wanted me to dress up too and knew I had it from Halloween!). It's my friend Grace's family with me.

If you're looking for something similar, just go to the Disney site and go to girls, then sleepwear. Here's one for Ariel that looks a lot like it.

I still suggest a little tank top underneath though so they aren't itchy. Girls loved these though- after our long day at the park they still had them to sleep in! :thumbsup2

We're taking DD age 3 to Askerhus in May and she wants to dress like Belle, so I picked up a Belle "dress up" dress at Once Upon a Child (second hand store) for $10! Since it's not considered a costume, the dress isn't quite as elaborate and is a little lighter weight. I'm going to have her wear a tank top underneath and just change her clothes after breakfast. If she wants to wear it longer she certainly can, but I have a feeling that once she has her pics taken with Belle she may be "over" the dress. We'll see. But in any case, I'll have a change of clothes with me just in case.

Disney also sells "spring" versions of the princess dresses. We bought my DD the Sleeping Beauty one, no sleeves, its shorter and lighter weight. We went in May last year during the 90+ degree weather and she was fine. We did have shorts and a t-shirt ready just in case. The Disney store here still sells them so that may be another option for you. Have a wonderful trip:goodvibes

You can find some very cute Princess-inspired sundresses on Etsy. I don't have any children, but these look much cooler (in both senses of the word) to me!

I don't know this seller and have never purchased anything from her, but there's an idea of the super cute designs you can find on Etsy!

I make my daughter's outfits (if you don't sew you could check etsy). I always use comfy fabrics like soft cottons or breathable silks. I adjust hem lines, sleeves, etc for the weather. Not only are the more comfortable, but I don't like a lot of the junk they add to the store ones to make them "fancy". I like it when they closer to the real thing.

Could you pm me or post here who the etsy seller was that you got these pics from? Thanks!
