DD (6) seems to enjoy Magic Tree House books right now. Her teacher reads a chapter a day and they are on book 4 or 5 already. I am thinking about getting her the series (or at least the first half of the series) for Christmas. Suggestions on how to do this? I can get them through Scholastic for maybe the best price (if you factor in the 'new book' thing too). Or I can buy smaller lots from Ebay, maybe cheaper. Or I can keep checking the thrift shops near us, definitely cheaper but not new but that is not really a huge deal. Or I can tell everyone that will buy for her that she is collecting these books but then I have to deal with constantly updating which she has and figuring out what to do with multiples. She hasn't specifically asked for these, I'm just hoping she will want to read them again at some point. Suggestions on best way to buy them?

I have a bunch of Magic Treehouse books I was just going to donate. I will send them to you. :)

PM me your address and I'll send them to you if you'd like. I can send you a list of the titles if you'd like to see which ones I have.

I would look into purchasing from Scholastic directly. That way you could buy them in a set. We have a Scholastic factory in our area, if you have one of those look into it because they do offer a family/friends sort of discount for shopping at their store on site.

You can get sets of these books (e.g. Books 1-4 or 5-8) together. We bought several rounds for DD6. She eventually found other series that interested her more, so we don't have the whole set, but we probably have most of them.

I got DD tons of Magic Tree House books through the used book sales at our public library and church. The Magic Tree House phase is a short one, so families quickly cycle through them and then donate them to be sold. I don't think I ever paid more than a quarter for any of them.

Another option is the used bookstores...DD read all these (well, all up to the point when she outgrew them)...and we got most of them from one of the local Half Priced Books stores, not sure what you might have in your area.

In addition, did you know they made a musical? It is called The Magic Tree House: The Musical...and the CD is available on Amazon.

I got many at a used bookstore and then just filled in where necessary from Amazon (or even Barnes and Noble).

I do think that Amazon sells them in a whole huge bundle (like the first 50 or something). Have no idea of the price, but it's kind of a WOW presentation.

Don't forget to get some Fact Trackers, too, which are the non-fiction books that go along with them.

I buy all my used books from betterworldbooks.com. Most of the ones I've received have been old library books and in great condition. Free shipping everyday and they do a lot of 3/$10 sales. I searched "magic tree house" and it came up with a lot of books, if you don't mind getting them out of order or searching through all the listings.

The nice thing about scholastic is your child's classroom will earn books with your purchase.

Only if your school is signed up for this service.

OP - Budget wise - look for used these books have been around for a long time (Oldest DS read them when he was in 3rd grade, they'd been out for a few years then and he is in college now) and there are a ton of them out there. If looking for ease of ordering scholastic is best but you will pay quite a bit more for them. You can also look at places like Target and Walmart which usually discount these titles if they have them.

Definitely buy Magic Treehouse books! That was the first series of books that my girls -- and all their friends -- really loved. Used, new, whatever. Doesn't matter.

I have ordered from betterworldbooks as well, through their half.com store (you earn Ebates there :thumbsup2 ) and they had fantastic service. Highly recommend them.
