I don't know where to put this but I chose to put this in Community Board. Just curious, how can we apply to be a board moderator? Do the administrators choose them or what? Just curious, you know . TIA, Tommy
The couple that I have known who have become mods were invited when their became a need for a new mod or mods.
It seems based on knowledge of a particular board topic and helpfullness to other posters was a consideration. There is more--just don't know what else is considered.
I have been a moderator on another board (completely different topic) and trust me, it's not the best job you can have
It costed me many tears and sleepless nights. At some point, you get on a friendly basis with people, I even got to know many of them IRL, and then there is the point where you have to remind them about rules and even take some action. And then you loose friends.
Thanks for asking about becoming a DIS Moderator. It can be a thankless job at times but for the most part, you get to meet some wonderful people and build friendships that last for a long time.
There is no "Moderator application" or request form. Each board is run by a group of moderators - the number depending on the popularity of the board and the number of posts. When it comes time to add a new moderator to a board, the current staff of that board looks at posters that have been active and helpful with topics and above all, are respectful and don't insult or make snide remarks.
The best recommendation I can give you is to enjoy your favorite boards, participate and be a good board "citizen" and let your personality speak for itself. But also please remember, it is a pretty rare occurance that new moderators are added so please don't get discouraged in being a valued member of the DIS if it doesn't happen
Thanks for your answers!!! I really enjoy DISboards, especially all about Disney Resorts. Someday... I would like to be a moderator, too (if they chose me). But I'm not so interested in it for now. And I'm very busy in Singapore. So I guess it would be better for me to be a "normal" board citizen
I have nothing to add about becoming a mod, but just wanted to say that I have a friend that just returned from Thailand and is moving to Indonesia as we speak. She will be teaching English and working on her photography.
Hey, I have the shiny tiara, I have a sceptor but I got no cool cape or my secret decoder ring!!!! Now, wonder if I dare to bring my tiara to WDW with me????
