How "tame" is Space Mountain, Dinosaur, MS, TT?

I haven't been on the new Test Track so I can't really say.

If you didn't like Splash Mountain, you probably won't like Space Mountain.

Dinosaur doesn't have any big drops but it jerks you around a bit. It's really fun and not too scary. I knew someone who lost his phone on there but he's a little on the large side so that might have helped it fall out of his pocket.

I'm okay with a lot of rides but the more intense version of Mission Space made me nauseous. Try the milder one first.

ETA: I have never had issues with motion sickness before, which made it very surprising that I had problems on MS!

Dinosaur is, by far, the ROUGHEST indoor ride at WDW.
(Space Mtn. is right in there, but not for ENTIRE ride!)

Its certainly "tied" for the absolute LOUDEST
bellowing sound effects.

And there is nothing that comes close in the category of
"Pitch-blackness...
then FULL-BRIGHT LIGHTS illuminating
GIANT DINOS with razor-sharp spiked teeth
LUNGING out straight AT YOU
with DEAFENING-ROAR sound effects."

Then,
more VIOLENT shaking,
jack-rabbit ACCELERATION,
sudden hard BRAKING...
and REPEAT.

And I *still* ride it every time I go even though in all of my ride photos I'm hiding my face/screaming at the top of my lungs. :scared1:

Pearls, I don't believe the ride track changed at all, it's still the exact same ride with a new theme and query. :thumbsup2

Well in that case, it's fairly wimpy. The fastest it goes is 65 mph, so it's like driving on the highway in a convertible. But that's just me, others may disagree.

OP:

Everyone is being helpful but the key is what YOU can take. It's not worth experiencing everything once and ruining your entire day. I have motion sickness and I have gone that route before.

Regarding your issues...

There is NO WAY on earth i would recommend you go on Space Mountain. If Splash was your limit, Space will wreck you.

Dinosaur is pitch black and very jerky, but no drops.

MS (green) - well I tried that and nearly got sick b/c of my motion sickness issues (can't do Star Tours either). If you don't have issues with simulators, this one is a breeze for you.

Test Track - very tame and fun - enjoy the fast ride of being outdoors in a car.

My 6 year old was terrified on Space. She came off that ride in absolute tears. I had to carry her up the moving sidewalk.

The biggest problem on Space for her was that the ride is 3 single seats in a row so I couldn't hold her hand and assure her that things will be okay.

I find space to be very jerky. I love roller coasters. I'm not a huge fan of space beacuse I get off it and feel like I jarred my back.

Test Track isn't scary to me at all.

I have never ridden Mission Space. I can't handle motion simulators well, they make me sick to my stomach. One of these days I'll try it without the kids first.

I love Dinosaur, but most of my family finds it a bit intense.

I'm one of those that grew into my motion sickness. When I was younger I could do most anything but the older I get the less I can stand. That being said everyone is correct in saying Dinosaur will likely give you no problems. I know i've ridden SM but cant remember a thing for the life of me. Tower of Terror is fun but if you don't like drops or heights might wanna stay away. I've not done test track old or new or green level MS. Funny story... I rode mission space years ago before they introduced the two separate experiences. Already well into my motion sick phase of life I went onto the ride not really understanding how the g-forces would effect me. They also do a great job if masking how the ride works from the guests. So pretty much immediately upon "launch" I gray out and start panicking. Needless to say I've stayed away sense then.

I thought dinosaur was. A blast, it is a bit jerky but it wasn't too much of a bother. I did space man for the first time, it was ok definitely thrilling to be in the dark..but I don't like roller coasters, I did it because I chickened out when I was 8! Just had to conquer it as an adult. I don't mind spinning, I loved mission space orange!!!! It's funny drops other me now that I am older too! Tower of terror would have to involve me getting paid. A lot.

I compare coasters to the cyclone at Coney Island, ny. It was the first roller coaster in the us. And it is absolutely terrifying, and I ended up with my back completely bruised. Now that's a jerky ride! Never again....but I definitely don't mind most rides now

I would not call them tame, but tolerable. I have claustrophobia, but I love Space Mountain. I have on Dinosaur six times and it still scares the daylights out of me. ToT - not. Stitch's Great Escape - not.

I remember the first time I went on BTMRR - I asked someone how long it was and they told me. It was 4 minutes. It was the longest 4 minutes of my life until I got off the attraction and they said it was 45 seconds....ugh.

Of course, Mission Space, not even the soft side.

Well, seeing as I LOVE all these rides (and about 95% of all the rides in WDW for that matter....haven't tried the water parks or the new FL yet XD), I'll add my 2¢. I might end up repeating most of what everyone said already, but oh well. I'm in a talking mood.

Test Track - I haven't ridden the 'reimagined' one yet, but based on what I've seen/read, it's the same general advice I'd give either way. There are some dark parts in this ride (including a moment when a truck tries to surprise you in said darkness, but it's easy peasy lol), but the part that most people like about this ride is outdoor portion. Like a PP said, it's like riding in a convertible on the highway. It's truly nothing to fear. Besides the truck, nothing comes out and scares you in the dark, there are no big drops, nothing that would give you fright. You'll be just fine on this one. :thumbsup2

Space Mountain - this one can be a bit more intimidating, especially because it's mostly in the dark, apart from the beginning and end. If you don't mind seeing the entire track layout, watch this video. It's Space Mountain with the lights on, so you can see the track clearly and know exactly what to expect: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygYP8C6QhC0). This video was before the refurb, but the track never changed, just the effects, so this is what you'll get track-wise. I think of it as one step up from Primeval Whirl in terms of drops and track layout. The dark and sound effects you hear are meant to make it sound more thrilling, but really it's not bad at all. It does whip you around a bit, but it's nothing too horrible. I've been on MUCH worse, so I wouldn't worry about it. It's too iconic of a ride to miss out on IMO, and even if you end up not liking it, at least you can say you've at least given it a shot. :)

Mission Space (green side) - a piece of cake. If you were to suggest orange, then I would give more caution, but green is tame. The only thing that would worry some people is if you had claustrophobia. It closes you into a pretty tighter space than you're used to, but there's a screen right in your face, which is where your focus will be 90% of the time. No need to worry about the darkness in this one, because like I said, the screen is all you'll really see. This one is also pretty tame, so you'll be fine IMO. ::yes::

Dinosaur - out of this whole list, this is the one I'd give the most caution to. There are no drops (if you ever feel any, that's just the ride vehicle jostling you around for effect), but it's 90% darkness, with the only parts lit up are the beginning, end, and the dinosaurs right in your face lol. It starts out tame, but by the time it ends, a lot of people end up screaming and kids can get frightened because of the dinosaurs and loud noises. This is another ride I'd recommend seeing online before considering riding (link is here ;): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUazcYyJn4w). There's no video around that shows exactly how the layout is, but night-vision helps a lot. If you aren't afraid of dinos and things of that nature, then that'll help, but again, the darkness and loud noises tend to even scare some adults, so I'd think about it.

Personally I love ALL of these rides, and I used to be afraid of Space Mountain when I was a kid. Once you ride those rides and know what to expect, it's not so bad. Might as well take advantage of the rides while they're still here with us. Space Mountain I don't see going anytime soon (just because of the nostalgia and how popular it still is), but better to try them out and say you have rather than not and regret it later when it's too late.

Tower Of Terror btw can be pretty frightening for some people (my niece actually sobbed throughout her entire first ride, full-out-screaming kind of sob, while her brother half her age was perfectly fine with it. It all depends. :rolleyes1) The only thing it really truly does is lift you out of your seat a few times, and while in the dark, you get a gorgeous view of HS and more of WDW.

Rock N' Roller Coaster is a totally different experience all on its own, so I won't even try to delve into that topic. I know you didn't ask for it, but that's just FYI. :lmao:

My fiancé is a bit of a ride chicken too, he refuses to go on Tower of Terror, Rock'n'Roller Coaster, and Everest. Splash Mountain is a bit of a stretch for him but he can tolerate it. All the others he is fine with.

I say if you've been on Splash you'll probably be ok.

The thing about Dinosaur that's the most overwhelming is how LOUD it is, imo! And Space and Dinosaur are quite jerky.

I have never done Mission:Space green side, but orange affected me badly last trip so I believe we're just crossing it off our list, as neither of us enjoy the ride that much. Tiny cramped capsule and pushing buttons? I just don't see the appeal I guess.

Space Mountain is the only ride I generally avoid. I don't have any physical issues, but there's something about it that really jars my lower back. Dinosaur can be rough as well, but it doesn't have the same lateral g-forces and I don't have any problems with it.

Strangely enough, I don't have the same issues with Disneyland's Space Mountain. The track seems much smoother to me.

I like Mission Space orange line a lot and find it a lot tamer than Star Tours, which sometimes leaves me feeling a little queasy.

I have always been a huge chicken myself when it comes to thrill rides or anything of the sort. I finally tried Big Thunder Mountain and loved it, but Splash I wasn't much a fan of, just like you. I was basically guilted to ride all of the above (except for Mission Space, because usually I get sick with rides like that).

I absolutely love Dinosaur-- it is rough, loud, and dark, but it's honestly one of my favorites, especially once you know what to expect, and there aren't big drops or anything.

Test Track I haven't ridden since they changed it, but it was definitely tolerable, and the only part I had any hesitance about was the speed at the end. I would ride it again.

Hated Space Mountain. I tried it twice, and both times I felt like I was about to fall out of the vehicle, lol. It killed my back and I didn't like the drops. If I was going to avoid one, it would be that.

I think we're definitely doing Dinosaur, Mission Space green, and Test Track as our new rides... And maybe MAYBE Space Mountain if me, the scaredy cat, isn't chicken. My wife's all about trying these new adventures. Live once, right?

Agree that Dinosaur is dark and jerky BUT my 4yr old enjoyed it--the same 4 yr old that didn't like Barnstormer or "roller coasters" and was afraid of almost every kiddie coaster at Legoland. He does love dinos though. I want to try him on BTMRR and SM on our Nov. trip--we'll see. I can't do it early in the day though, or I risk ruining the day for everyone if he doesn't like them. That's what happened at Legoland-- the whole day was a bust after that :sad2:. Anyway, I really didn't think Dinosaur was that bad.

as I always said to my ride shy step daughter "You aren't going to die. These rides will not kill you." So if your wife wants you to join her on these rides, you should do it. Other than motion sickness (which is HORRIBLE) there isn't any reason you should not give these a go. You might be pleasantly surprised! I bet it would mean a lot to your wife to have you join her.

Dinosaur is mainly LOUD and bumpy. I close my eyes if I get overwhelmed and all is well.

Misson Space Green is a cinch.

Test Track is pretty fast and little bit bumpy. No drops.

You got this!!!!:thumbsup2

If she cant ride thes rides with you, she'll find someone else to ride with.

Seriously though, if they make you miserable... nobody wants you to be miserable. They are all easier on the senses if you're drunk, just sayin'

Not a bad idea actually, I vote klonopin. Talk to your doctor, explain the situation. Use words like "panic" and "desire to run away" a lot. Then ask for something that ends in -aprozam.

How does space mountain in MK compare to space mountain in Disneyland? I don't care for the drops on Splash Mountain but always Space Mountain in Disneyland. I think the fact that it was dark helped because I couldn't see the track and therefore not psych myself out.

My husband finds Goofy's Barnstormer to be the edge of his acceptance. Space Mountain is an absolute no go. Mission Space is fine as long as it's the less intense side. Test Track is fine. Dinosaur is just a hair over his comfort, but he does it anyway.
