How soon were you upgraded?

We are taking our 4th Disney cruise on Sept 26. We were lucky enough to get upgraded from cat. 11 to cat. 8 or 9 on all 3 of our past cruises. But those were all booked with 2 months of sailing. We booked this cruise a year ago. My question is for all of you who have gotten upgrades: how soon before the actual cruise were you upgraded? Just wondering. Whether we get it or not, we'll have a great time and we can't wait!!

Can't tell you, this is our 5th cruise and we have never been upgraded from our CAT9. Enjoy the ones you had and consider yourself lucky.

First cruise, we booked about 4 months out, cat 10, didn't get upgraded. 2nd cruise, we booked at about 50 days out, cat 8 or 9 (window on deck 7, specifically requested deck 7), and were upgraded to cat 5 on deck 7 just before we got our docs (maybe 25 days out?)

Our upcoming cruise is our 3rd and it's our first upgrade. All 3 were book months in advance.

This cruise was book January 2003 and paid off Sept 2003 and we found out we were upgraded this past March for our Nov 4 cruise.

10 Magic cruises...3 upgrades. Each time, it was different. ONce, it was a call from the TA before documents--like 2 months out saying that we were "offered" an upgrade, did we want it? Another time, it was an upgrade reflected in the documents that I knew nothing about (but identified on the cabin number on the docs). The third time, it was at the port--the luggage porter had a diffrent cabin number than I had, and he hinted that it was a good thing. At check in, the CM said something like "we've moved you to XXXX. It's on the same deck but is a little nicer stateroom (like from an 11 to an 8 or 9 in that case).

So...upgrades come sporadically and in different ways. The rule remains to book a cabin where you will be happy. If you happen to get an upgrade, you rejoice.

This is purely my observation and may not be true...but it seems that in my case, an upgrade is a little more likely if you booked a gty room....and maybe if you booked farther in advance. We've never been upgraded on a "close to sailing date" booking. Also, off season seems to be a better chance than prime season.

Booked our cruise 15 months in advance. Got our docs and was upgraded about a week after that (and only found out about the upgrade when I called to make REAS arrangements!)

What is the likelyhood of an upgrade when the ship is sold-out?

We booked our land/sea in Nov. of '03 and sailed in May of '04. We didn't know of the upgrade until we checked in at the Beach Club and we were told then. What a great surprise:teeth:

We booked a cat 12 in March . We check our reservation daily and July 31st we checked and were upgraded to a cat 10 and were very excited about the upgrade, but I've come to learn that you can be upgraded anytime until you check in at the port ,so don't give up hope. Good Luck

I was upgraded just as soon as I gave them my credit card number.:p

This is our 3rd Disney cruise( Oct. 9, 04) and we have never been upgraded. We booked our upcoming cruise in April 2003 and have been paid in full for months. I'm still hoping for pixie dust but am happy with our cat6 (6034)anyway. I would take a cat. 4 or better, how about the Walt suite? No? well thats ok.
Just make sure you are happy with the category you book and any upgrade is a bonus.

We booked our trip in July of 03 for May of 04 and booked 2 connecting cat 8's. About 3-4 weeks before we left I got an email from Donna at DU informing me we had been comp upgraded to 2 connecting cat 4's!

That is our one and only free upgrade in over 15 cruises

I have heard if the boat is getting close to having the lower
catagory's sold out, they move some to upper catagory's because
they can sell the lower catagory's at the cheaper prices easier.

So we can all hope that we get lucky and are the one's they choose to move!!
:hyper:

We were upgraded about a month or so beforehand. I'm pretty sure it was after we got the documents.

We booked 19 months in advance and found out 2 days before we sailed that both Cat 11's had been upgraded to Cat 8's. We had already received our docs and used Costco for reservation.
