There was a crawl on Fox this pm that a bomb has gone off where my DS is stationed and one person was killed and several americans were hurt. I know he was ok this am because he was able to call, but if something has happened, how soon before we know anything and is there anyplace I can find out on my own? I am trying to keep busy so I don't upset my other children but its hard.

I don't know :( I will keep your son in my prayers. I hope he stays safe, I hope all of our military personnel stays safe :(

I know that when a dangerous incident happened aboard my DHs ship- he wasn't able to contact me for about 5 days.

I knew that something had happened and that he was in the vicinity- but I couldn't tell if he'd been in immediate danger or not.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.........

thanks for keeping him in your prayers, at this point thats about all we can do.

At a recent briefing we were told that the military's rule is that you're supposed to be notified within 24 hours if something HAS happened to your loved one. Of course, there are many reasons why they might not know immediately exactly who was involved; therefore it might take longer, but generally they are VERY conscientious about notifying family members as soon as they possibly can.

On the other hand, if there's been an incident but your loved one has NOT been hurt (or worse), you may not get the good news for a long time--they usually shut the phones, e-mail, etc. down for a while (sometimes days) till they're sure all the next of kin of the wounded/lost have been officially notified. In my experience, no news has always been definitely good news, and I hope and pray that you will hear nothing but good news from your son very soon!

Sadly our friend lost her husband Monday in Iraq. She was told in person on Tueday. It did not hit the news intill Tuesday night.

I pray daily for an end to this WAR. I pray for all the men and woman over there.

Cant imagine how scary this must be for you

I feel your pain. :(
I know it is difficult, but try to think positive and keep the faith. ^i^

God Bless!

 Raejean.....what a hard thing to go through.
I will keep your DS in my thoughts.

Prayers are on the way! I thank god for our armed forces everyday! They are keeping us safe and sound:D

Prayers for your family. When my friend's son was killed in Afghanistan last year, she knew within 8 to 10 hours.

The military lets you know as soon as possible....usually within 24 hours if they know how to get in touch with you (if you're listed as next of kin and the address is correct).

I know it's hard to wait to hear from him, but remember, in this case, NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS!!! They always cut communications from affected commands so that officials can notify families before news leaks out through unofficial means, possibly before notifications are made!

Keeping your son in our thoughts and prayers!

Prayers to you and your son. I pray each day for the military. I know how heartwrenching this can all be. I have a close relative stationed in Fallujah right now and there have been so many deaths there lately. It's been an awful time.
