How soon after buying new contract can reservations be made?

Hi.

A friend of mine joined DVC yesterday and is under the assumption that he has to wait +/- a month to make a reservation. He paid cash over the phone. Once the documents are signed, is a member number issued? I don't recall having to wait until the deed is recorded. Anyone know for sure?

Thank you in advance.

Once the signed documents are back in the hands of Disney he/she can make a reservation. That is as long as it was purchased through Disney. If it was a resale, it takes longer.

I believe it is even sooner than that. We were able to make reservations as soon as we authorized payment on our credit card. Our guide gave a member number, and that was all we needed to make reservations within 24 hours. Certainly we didn't have to wait until paperwork was returned. This is one of the important advantages of buying direct. If you buy resale, I believe you have to wait until after closing, and that's where your 4-6 week wait comes from.

If they bought directly from Disney they should be able to make a reservation immediately. Usually, once you put the deposit down to get the paperwork rolling, everything is good to go.

I had the same experience as erikthewise.

We just bought an add-on a few weeks ago, October use-year. With only a month and a half to use the 2002 points - I started booking short stays for friends/family right away. I made the first reservation about 2 days after I confirmed the sale over the telephone - no problem.

I made the next reservation a day or two later, and they couldn't confirm it for me - as the "value of my reservations exceeded my down payment." A quick call to Member Accounting and an additional payment on my credit card solved the problem - I was able to call back a few hours later and book the reservation.

Believe it or not - I made ANOTHER reservation the next day, and had the same experience. By the time I finally received my documents - a few days later - I had already made two additional payments.

Other than a few extra phone calls - there was absolutely no problem!

"Dear Bobbi & Tom,

Thank you for your e-mail. At this time you are unable to register your e-mail
address since your contract is not closed. Sometimes it takes up to 2 weeks
after your contract is closed to be able to register. Your contract is
projected to close on October 7, 2003. Please try again to register at a later
date.

Sincerely,

Todd

I have a membership number and can't do anything until my contract is closed, as the above e-mail to me implies. My member number won't accesss any information on the web site. I don't know how to put the above in special font to indicate that it came from someone else.

You don't need a member # to access the website. Everyone uses the same user name & password, it should have been included with your materials or you can call your guide.

I can see why it might not be available through the internet, but MS should be no problem at all.

If they bought SSR, they will have to wait until December. For other resorts it should be immediately to reserve though I assume one will have to close before the use date.

I made our reservations as soon as we got home (we signed on site) and ours wasn't recorded for another 3 weeks and I got the same email from MS about the web site. You just can't get the email newsletter, but you have total access to the info.
