How should I surprise my sons?

Hi everyone,

We're planning a last minute trip to Disney at the end of November. We happen to be leaving on my Birthday. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for surprising my two sons (ages 4 and 6). This will be their 5th trip to Disney and their first during the holiday season. We are staying off-site this time around. I thought about having a fairy godmailer send me a postcard with a note saying how much "Mickey misses me and why don't you come down for your birthday." But then I thought that wouldn't it be great just to wake them up that morning and say "Let's go to Disney World!" I just thought I'd get some ideas from you all.

Thanks for your help.

Waking them that morning is great they would be in shock & over excited at once. My DDs would. Make them Christmas MM shirts or their favorite character to wear one day. Get tickets for the MVMCP. Have a great trip!!!

If I could have kept a secret I would have until the morning that we were leaving, but alas I couldn't contain my excitement.

I told my dd (5) that we are going and she is very excited. I made a paper link chain to count down the days, but she has fallen behind. So what I am going to do is keep her a couple of days behind and wake her up on the day we go and I think that will be a suprise to her.

Good Luck!

I gave my DD then-5 an autograph book, and had her sound out the words: "Get in the car! We're going to Disney World!"

That said, my kids have asked me not to surprise them again. They enjoy the planning and anticipation too much!

What about giving the boys a present for your birthday? You could wrap a box filled with clues about your trip (Disney dollars, autograph book, Birnbaum's kids guide, etc.) and see if they can figure it out. I'm sure that whatever you decide to do will result in a great surprise for them.

We're surprising DD in January with a trip, leaving the morning after her 7th birthday. I think we'll do a scavenger hunt, but we haven't gotten around to specifics with it yet.

Wake them up and say since they gave you the best gift you could ever have - them as sons that you have a gift for them this year. Hand them 2 Disney shirts and tell them to get ready to go as they will be meeting the mouse himself at Disney World.

Don't forget about the "disney enchanted call"... A character will call the house and "talk" to the child. We are surprising my 3yo and 5yo and Mickey is calling that morning to say, "Good Morning.. I hear you are taking a trip today!"

They will be so surprised!!!

The best part.... It's only $2.49 per call!!!

Now, this isn't waking them up that morning, but just to give you an idea...

What we did last year on Christmas (and will do something very similar again) is buy my DD5 a new suitcase (will skip that part this year) and filled it with pictures of the resort, "tickets' to our various priority seatings, new socks and undies (which we always buy for our trips), a picture of an airplane, a countdown calendar, and notes from Santa and Mickey talking about the trip. She was floored, and I hope she is again.

Friends of ours woke their kids up and told them they were going to breakfast, but instead went to the airport. The kids didn't realize where they were until they were actually pulling into the hotel.

We leave Thursday to celebrate my parents' 40th wedding anniversary. My DD (7) doesn't know she is going. I left it up to my dad to tell her. My only request was he not tell her too soon ~ she LOVES WDW & no matter how many times she's been there, she gets so excited. I didn't want her to zone out for the first month of school! We've let her plan some things Nana & Grandpop are doing ~ including MNSSHP. Boy, was she unhappy when they told her they wanted to go to that! She knows we're taking them to the airport on Thursday morning. Dad's never flown so she's been busy giving him "rules". He's planning on telling her when we get to the airport, "I can't remember everything you've told me. You better come with us to make sure I get it right!" I can't wait to see her reaction! :hyper2:

That is such a great idea! I think that I may be able to use that also. Oh goody! I am so excited now ~ more and more every day!

Just bumping this thread as I want to surprise our kids...
