How scary is Tower of Terror?

tot12.jpg

DD was 7 and the preshow scared the cr** out of her. But as soon as it was over she wanted to do it over and over again. Awesome ride!! ToT is definitely scary, but it is our favorite ride in orlando!! Always our first and last stop :teeth:

Rode this the first time when my one daughter was only 3 3/4 years old. Definitely a thrill! I didn't do it this visit though. Scared the crap out of me. Not so much the falling part, but there wasn't really anything to hold onto. I was holding my 3 yr olds hand and only had the other side of the seat to hold onto. If there was a bar across the seats I would ride it again in a heartbeat but not being able to hold onto anything...don't like it. DH and my now 4 3/4 year old rode it this year. She STILL loves it! But she hated Space Mountain. Said it was scary but a CM overheard her and told her a couple things about the ride to help her not be afraid anymore. The biggest hill you go down on Space Mountain is SMALLER than the hill in Pirates of the Caribbean. Amazing I know, but true. Also you aren't really going that fast, they blow fans at you so you think you are going faster. After that, she was ready to try it again. TOT is a not do on my list until they get handles or bars.

I'm not that big on thrill rides, but I do all of the coasters at WDW. I first did TOT in 2001 and I hated it. I came off shaking and swore I'd never do it again. This past August, my 12 year old DD and I went and she wanted to prove that she could do it, so I mustered up my courage and went. I LOVED it this time. We went during a thunder storm and there was no line. We got off, ran around to the front and rode it again - 6 times in a row with no wait! I can't wait to go back this summer and ride it again. Its now my favorite ride. The special effects are wonderful! I'm terrified of heights, but because its closed in and you only see the outside briefly, I'm okay. I feel safe on it.

It's my favorite ride in all of Disney... I love the feeling of going up and down!!! My 3 year old however will tell you different. She begged me to go on and she's such a daredevil we took her on. She won't be going on again any time soon, lol!

Okay, I love to be scared! This is my favorite ride of all, but also the most scary. DH and I are rollercoaster freaks. There is not an upside down, g-force, spin, race ride we won't ride. In comparison, we think Mission Space is not scary AT ALL, just fun, rrc is fun but tame, space mountain is kinda a snooze. We both agree that TOT is the scariest! I think it is the lack of control, the suprise about when it drops and how many times... and the agonizing wait in the dark before it drops ( I love it!). Funny aside, our two boys, 14 and 10 are ride wimps, my 10 is still afraid to ride splash mountain!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loved it! I did take my 4 year old on it at Disneyland and his quote " I NEVER want to go on it AGAIN!" And when we were at WDW he was true to his word, he didn't want to even walk by it at first :rotfl:

But WDW is so good, you have to try it at least once in your life!

There are a couple of little hand bars to hold on to around your legs but you have to share them with the ones who are sitting beside you which means if you are sitting next to me, then i will take them because its a reaction.

I'll take them too. When dh took the kids on it for the first time they didn't realize the bars were there. They totally came off the seat without something to hold onto. The bars are very short and are down by the sides of your thighs. So when I went I sat between ds and dd and before the ride started I pushed their hands off the bars so I'd have something to hang onto! Hey we already knew they'd be fine if they weren't holding on!

Oh, just wanted to mention when we were there, there was a couple that had to be in their mid 80's doing ToT! It was great, they seemed to have a blast and I just was thinking that I hope I'm out doing this kind of stuff when I'm their age! :)

LOL. Reminds me of taking my 5 year old on Space Mountain at DL. Afterwards, I asked him if he liked it. He said "Yes, but I'm NEVER going on it again". He's pretty much opposite of my daughter who at age 4, absolutely loved the Matterhorn.

I am a roller coaster chicken, though I will ride BTMRR and Space Mountain. I hated ToT!!! So much so that when we were at DWD three weeks ago, I told my husband I did not even want to go to MGM!!! I felt like ToT got to the point that I could not even tell if we were going up or down.

By the way...I have had nightmares for several years (even before riding ToT) about being in a falling elevator, so that might have made the ride worse for me... I did live, though...didn't pass out...and managed to keep my lunch down!! I just cried while we were riding!!! :earseek:
