How scary is Soarin?

If you are scared of heights be sure to be in the last row. It is not scary at all. You are so engrossed in the ride that you won't even notice. :)

Not scary at all. You are in a seat flying above beautiful scenery. You feel the breezes and even get some of the smells. It is amazing and not to be missed. The scene itself moves you don't except to be lifted up into scene and then back down out of it afterwards.

It's not scary unless you are afraid of heights. It does lift you up so you feel like you are "in" the movie. If you sit in the last row you will be the closest to the ground.

Well that depends. I am not afraid of heights, love roller coasters, but this ride is one I can't do.

Something about the motion on the screen, made me feel horrible and I had to look at the side of the building, away from the screen until it was over.

I've never been scared on it, or found it scary. You get so into what's going on that you don't really notice anything scary going on!

I'm very afraid of heights, I can think about a situation in my head and start to panic. I was able to go on Soarin and it wasn't bad. I sat in the bottom row next to a lovely gentleman who talked me through the whole thing. The only scene he thought might scare me was going over the snow covered mountain so I closed my eyes and buried my head on his shoulder. He, his wife, and the CM were so nice to help me through it. Watch it in YouTube to get familiar with film beforehand.

Not scary at all. I know I am in the minority here, but I think it is one of the worst rides at WDW. Why people wait hours and hours to ride it is beyond me. I waited 20 mins and was very disappointed.

I don't find it even remotely scary. You are basically watching an IMAX movie, but the rows of seats are lifted up higher so you are closer to the screen.

I do not like heights. The chair lifts at the ski slopes are enough to get my adrenaline going, heart pounding, and hands shaking. But I love to ski. If you can ride a ski lift, you can definitely do Soarin'. With Soarin' you are harnessed in to a high-backed lift chair that seats 12 people, and each seat has armrests. It lifts you up in darkness, so you can't really tell how high, but it's not as high as a ski lift. Yes, my heart was pounding, but I was smiling and laughing the whole time - it's exhilerating. Remember, Disney has put a lot of time and money into you having fun safely. Mind over matter, relax, have fun.

Have to disagree there. Soarin is a phenomenal ride. Probably the best in WDW only after Expedition Everest and Tower of Terror.

Soarin rates very low on the thrill scale. About a 2-3 on a 10 scale. Boarding is staged outside the loading area. There are three rows with the first row once the ride moves into it starts position will be elevated about 40 feet above the floor. If you are scared of heights this can cause an issue as the rows are staggered and you will be above the floor and then the high simulation video will make you feel even higher as the screen wraps around your range of vision. Wind, sounds and scents also add to the simulated experience.

I love Soarin'. That being said, I can't sit in the end seats. I do have a mild fear of heights, and the last time I sat on the end I had a pretty serious anxiety attack. If I sit in the middle, it is fine.

Previous advice is good. Just relax and have fun.

We rode it twice yesterday. Me and my six year old. Its awesome. A lot of the guides take extra precaution with the scare factor. They cater to the outliers. Vast majority of people don't find it scary AT ALL.

For years I've had problems with heights -- and open spaces in front of me -- but I was only slightly uncomfortable for the first minute of Soarin' and then loved it. We go as often as possible and never ride it less than twice each time we'd be at Epcot.
:thumbsup2

The analogy to a chair lift is an excellent one. And I must say that I experience similar reactions to both ski lifts and Soarin'. I do have a fear of heights, and while I do ride Soarin' I'm often a trembling, heart racing bundle of nerves. I now know that I can request a seat on the lowest row and have ridden often enough to know when I need to close my eyes to avoid a couple of scenes.

But if you don't have a fear of heights, this ride is a walk in the park.

I don't know what yall are talking about... that dang golf ball gets me every time ;):lmao:
