How sad :( Miyuki cant give out her candy any more.

But why did the whiny kid whose parents pushed him to the front at the last second get one, while the patient child who waited and did not make a scene get passed over? That's the problem Disney has been dealing with as of late, it seems...

Your statement brought back memories. Back when I was part of the entertainment, I remember trying very hard to make the pushy kids wait for their autographs and signing the sweet patient kid's book first. I would even go so far as to "gently" nudge the others away and point to the shy sweet kid to come up.

I bet that Miyuki tried to do the same.

I understand that. But it also doesn't stop people from complaining to Disney about how their vacation was ruined because their kid didn't get a piece of candy/get picked for JTA/etc.

But also, Disney is not the outside world. Inside Disney you are special.

I honestly think this is different from JTA. Your child probably isn't coming to Disney a huge Miyuki fan. And I've seen Miyuki many times and chances are pretty good if you don't get picked the first time, you could come back (earlier this time) and have a good chance of getting picked the next time. If your child REALLY wanted a candy creation it'd be way easier to make that happen than at JTA.

Maybe a kid not getting picked isn't the reason. Maybe it is a health violation thing, or maybe someone got sick from eating the candy? :confused3 It still stinks though. I feel bad for her not being able to give them away anymore, she truly seemed to enjoy that.

It's been suggested before so this isn't my idea, but it seems like if she was to put it in a bag with a sticker on it that said even though it is made of sugar, it is non-edible art, that would probably cover her (and Disney) as far as any food regulations...of course that wouldn't help with the "my kid should have been picked instead of that kid because blah blah blah" syndrome...that would have to be solved by parents acting like adults and stop living in a "it's all about me/my kid world" for 30 minutes

Are children still allowed to pick the animal being made? Although I am sure Disney does receive complaints, do you think they would have stopped the children from being picked at all if that were the issue? It seems like if they are, then the Health Dept. issue may be a more likely cause of her having to stop giving out the candy. Just a thought.:confused3

I know a lot of things in my life have changed for the better. And maybe in years to come my children will experience great new things. However, I think it is sad to see some of the things that are going. I think that the candy lady could easily still give out her art if it were not advertised as candy. Tell people it's not edible. Problem solved. And if your child doesn't picked welcome them to the real world.

Yes both my kids were picked last week. They couldn't keep the candy but instead she called them up at the end for a picture.

Just another silly thing taken away. If you eat at Teppan Edo their onion volcano is just smoke no flames . And the umbrella drinks do not have umbrellas because they are dangerous (my daughter didn't like this one).

How long has she been doing her artwork? How long do you think she can continue? How many others have apprenticed in her skill? Perhaps it is a misguided attempt to get rid of the candy art altogether. This is just the first step.

This would be a good idea, if people actually read and followed directions.

Personally I don't think this has much to do with food safety. I think Disney got tired of the complaints, so they did away with it. I can't count the number of times just on this board people post "we waited and my child did not get picked", or some other reason why their child was entitled.

I have to think it is a food regulation situation and liability.

The not getting picked theory would apply to many things at Disney, parade family, the entire Dreams situation, family of the day, Sword in the Stone and many more.

This was my first thought, too.
But, then I remembered that Sword in the stone is gone and of course the Dream team is gone. And people actually complained all over these boards about missing out on YOAMD fastpasses. Some people got them while others didn't, or someone's party got them while they were in the bathroom so they missed out, or whatever. And the way YOAMD was set up, it was completely objective, chosen by computer, etc., so as to avoid complaints of "why them and not me? " So Disney was trying to be fair and still peolpe got upset.

Parade family, family of the day are a little different in that thay are generally not chosen in front of lots of peolpe, but more quietly, right? I could be wrong about that, though, I don't think I've ever seen anyone getting chosen for those things.

I wonder if they are planning to gradually move away from these "getting chosen" experiences, just to avoid all these complaints? I don't know...just wondering.

All this could be wrong- it may really be a food safety issue. THat wouldn't surprise me either. Yes, a "not edible" sticker would make sense to me, too. But gov't rules don't always make sense.

On thing that was different about the YOAMD dreams were that the CMs generally did NOT select the guests they were giving them to...they were actually told by a computer where to be at what time and who should be chosen - i.e. Expedition Everest, first train returning after 10am, or 3rd showing of PhilharMagic, or the 42nd guest exiting FOTLK...there were a few exceptions to this though.

SITS, JTA, and Miyuki were all CM-selected, and now none of them are (with SITS basically non-existent). Parade selections aren't done as obviously, and "waiting patiently for the next show" doesn't work for those.

A year ago my kids got selected for something we didn't even know about - we were at 1900 Park Fare for the first dinner seating, and were a bit early. We were the second family to check in - the first one was a rather large group. But after we checked in, a CM approached my kids - not the first family's kids - and asked if they could help open up the place. The CM did a little announcement, and my kids opened the doors - to see Cinderella and Prince Charming coming to greet them! They got to spend a few moments exclusively with them, and we also got a table where we were the first to be greeted by each character.

Now, I actually wondered at one point why we were chosen, and not the family that was ahead of us...I think it was because they were a much larger family, and the table we were at was a table for 4...but still the CM had some part in the selection.

Will we hear stories about parents complaining that their kids didn't get selected to open 1900 Park Fare, or is that far enough under the radar? After all, I hadn't heard about this before...

I bet we will. A few years ago my dd was asked to turn on the lights at Osbourne. They took her over to a roped off area and explained what she needed to do. Another Mom shoved her child under the rope and insisted they "share" turning the lights on. This woman would not give up. Several Cm's tried to "redirect her" and she was not having it. HER child was going to turn on the lights. Management and security were called and she was removed from the area. I haven't seen the big light switch the last few years..........

can anyone explain what is wrong with some people, I have two kids and most of these things would be cool for it to happen to them but i'm not going to force the issue or freak out if it doesn't, not for anything they are in WDW do you know how many kids don't get to go at all.
